The Merrow (はんぎょじん, Hangyojin?, lit. Fishman or メロー, Merō?), also known as the Fishite, or Fish Man, is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy series, first appearing in Final Fantasy IV. It is aquatic humanoid resembling a sahagin or mermaid.
Appearances
Final Fantasy IV

The Sahagin was called はんぎょじん (Hangyojin?, lit. Fishman) in the Easy Type release. All other releases have used サハギ (Sahagin?).
Final Fantasy V

The Merrow, also known as the Fishite, appears as an enemy encountered on the Big Bridge. It is an unremarkable enemy, but is vulnerable to Level 5 Death for an easy victory.
Final Fantasy XI

Merrow appear as an aquatic subgenus of lamiae, trading their snake-like features for a more mermaid-like appearance. As with lamiae, they are primarily encountered in the Arrapago Reef.
Final Fantasy Legend III

The Fish Man appears as an enemy and potential transformation for party members.
Final Fantasy Dimensions
The Merrow appears as an enemy exclusive to the original feature phone release, encountered in the Challenge Dungeon of the chapter "A Blessing in Disguise". Since the Challenge Dungeons do not in subsequent releases, the Merrow is dummied in all subsequent releases.

The Merrow from Final Fantasy V appears as an enemy.
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius
Two distinct Merrows appear. The first Merrow (はんぎょじん, Hangyojin?), a Sahagin-like enemy, is encountered in the Waterfall Way and Water Shrine, as well as during the events "The Big Bridge" and "Fate of the Dragoon", the former in reference to the Final Fantasy V Merrow. The second Merrow (メロウ, Merō?) more resembles its mermaid-like Final Fantasy XI appearance, and appears in the Ruins of the Water God.
Etymology
Merrows are the Scottish and Irish Gaelic equivalent of the mermaid and mermen.
