Bore

Summary

The Bore is a long-range Offensive Weapon that deals damage to structures with a powerful beam attack. It deals almost no damage to players, but given some time, melts through enemy structures, terrain, and shields. Its range is 400 studs, out-ranging the Artillery at level height, most infantry weapons and even the map height limit.

Overview

Requires a metric heck ton of iridium to build and run
~ BusyCityGuy

When the Bore is built, players can use the valve-like button on the back to aim the Bore, and then press the big yellow button to enable it. Once enabled, the Bore starts at a charge of 0%, dealing 50 damage/sec, consuming 40 Iridium/sec and charging at a rate of 0.833% every second, reaching full charge after 125 seconds (consumes 4800 iridium to charge from 0 to 100%). Its beam is initially teal, but slowly changes to a dark blue as Bore's charge increases. Once it reaches maximum power, the Bore deals 100 damage/sec to structures, shields and terrain while consuming 20 Iridium/sec.If the Bore loses access to Iridium, it will turn off until enough Iridium is supplied again. If the Bore turns off or its target is changed, the charge will reset. Additionally, if the Bore moves, it will re-adjust its aim, but will continue to charge. Bores will illuminate when firing.

The ring beside the valve-like button to aim the Bore changes depending on what the bore is hitting when active. Black means it's not hitting anything, white means it's hitting terrain, and if the ring has any other color, that color will match the team color of the structure it's hitting.

Borespam

Strategy

Bores are expensive, and require lots of iridium. Bores are often placed in groups. On the ground, players utilize their long range to hit skybases. They are also effective at destroying heavily shielded bases. Players often use Bores in Artillery fights, as they can outrange them, Despite using a massive amount of iridium, players will readily develop their iridium production to operate multiple bores in a match.

Players often "Bore Spam," which is the mass fabrication of bores and directing them to enemy structures. This strategy requires a lot of iridium production and storage (such as from a Sea Base), but is extremely effective, as multiple bores can be operated at once and will outrange enemy weapons.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Highest ranged siege weapon in the game (more range than artillery at same elevation)
  • Can assist in destroying Sea Bases, Skybases, and even terrain.
  • The Bore's target can be easily selected by using the targeting ring
  • Does not need to be manned to operate, unlike the Artillery
  • Does high damage to anything in the beam's path.

Cons

  • Power percentage resets when the target is changed
  • Poor initial damage and no splash damage.
  • Requires lots of iridium to build and run
  • Almost no player damage
  • Big, loud, and easy to spot when active.

Trivia

  • It is possible change the target by a tiny amount without it resetting.
  • As of May 6th, 2019, The Bore replaced the Rush Defense. The Rush Defense was the opposite of the Bore - it dealt minimal damage to structures but a lot of damage to players. It was originally added to help inexperienced players defend against rushers.
  • Tournament champion winners can choose to change the color of the beams of Bores they place.
