Niro is a non-playable character who appears in Breath of Fire II. He lives in the ruins of a village that once existed east of Mt. Fubi, which eventually becomes the site of Township.
Role in Breath of Fire II
Niro is an old man who lived as a drifter for many years before taking up residence in the the ruins east of Mt. Fubi. Ryu and Bow first meet him when their search for Suzy leads them to the ruins. They hear Niro crying for help and are surprised to find him being terrorized by a gigantic cockroach. After the creature is defeated, Niro offers to share his dinner with them out of gratitude for rescuing him. Ryu and Bow quickly realize that the pig he is planning to eat for dinner, is in fact, Suzy. After this discovery, Niro begrudgingly allows them to return the pig to its owner, Mina.
Later, Niro agrees to let Bow -- who is at the time wanted for a burglary -- stay in the ruins with him in exchange for fixing the place up. This marks the beginning of the property's transformation into the community of Township.
Once the ruins are eventually renovated into a four story house, Niro mans the building's front desk. Interacting with him will allow the player to change out the three party members that accompany Ryu.
