The Chrononavigator is an extremely powerful technology that allows its user to travel through space and time. Its only known owner has been Professor Paradox, who uses it to transport himself throughout the multiverse.
Appearance
In Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, the Chrononavigator resembled an ordinary pocket watch.
In Omniverse, the navigator was fashioned into a robotic arm prosthetic for Paradox.
Function
Simply put, the Chrononavigator can transport its user to any point in space-time without them getting lost.[1] Paradox once rationalized it to a chrono-mental displaced Ben as "a GPS for the multiverse".[2]
This power enables the access to not just any point in the Prime Timeline, but in all alternate timelines and parallel dimensions, which include, but are not limited to:
- Ultimate Alien Future Timeline[3]
- Omniverse Future Timeline[4]
- No Watch Timeline[5]
- Gweniverse[4]
- Dimension 23[4]
- Argitrix Timeline[4]
- Time Heals Timeline[6]
Through misuse or the desire of the user, the Chrononavigator can cause irreparable damage to the time-stream, resulting in the destruction of existence itself.[2]
In Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, Paradox used it by both disappearing out of space and creating blue portals to walk through. In Omniverse, however, he exclusively uses portals.
History
It is unknown how Paradox acquired it, but it has appeared with Paradox ever since his debut.
The Chrononavigator firsts appeared in Paradox, where Paradox also made his debut. He would occasionally open and look at the device, and could activate it by opening it, transporting himself, Ben, Gwen, and Kevin across time and space. After the team rescued Hugo from the failed time tunnel experiment, Paradox used the Chrononavigator to open a portal and show Hugo a "behind-the-scenes look at eternity."
Since then, the Chrononavigator is seen whenever Paradox appeared. He would occasionally activate it by either opening it or pressing the crown, which would give him control over time and space in some way.
Due to a growing involvement in the Time War, Paradox had the Chrononavigator fashioned into a robotic arm to replace the one cut off by Ben[DJW 1] for the purpose of camouflaging it.[2]
In Ben Again, Paradox came to 16-year-old Ben in his 11-year-old self's time period when Eon had swapped their consciousnesses with each other, informing him that Eon was after the Chrononavigator. As Eon battled Paradox, he cut off his robotic arm and kidnapped him. As 16-year-old Ben hid the Chrononavigator as that his 11-year-old self would find it in the future, Eon learned the truth about the device and intercepted it at the moment that 11-year-old Ben uncovered it.
Upon laying hands on the Chrononavigator, Eon was able to see and feel all the alternate timelines again, being able to instantly summon his minions. However, his rupturing of the space-time continuum had started to break existence, and Paradox warns him to stop. Eon decided that if he could not rule the cosmos, then he would destroy it, using the Chrononavigator to cause further chaos. Both Bens as Clockwork were able to defeat Eon, ejecting him from their timeline while leaving the Chrononavigator behind so that Paradox could reattach it to his arm.
Since then, the Chrononavigator again appeared along with Paradox, who mainly used it to create portals across time and space.
In Let's Do the Time War Again, Paradox takes out a Chroniton Particle from the Chrononavigator and gives it to Uprigg to build the Time Cycles.
