Earth-90[1][2][3][4] was one of the many universes in the original multiverse. The universe was presumably destroyed by The Monitor, however any remnants would have been destroyed by antimatter during the Anti-Monitor Crisis.

History

Monitor destroying Earth-90

Around 1990, Barry Allen was a scientist who later operated as a speedster known as "The Flash" the hero of Central City. In late 2018, Mar Novu/The Monitor ravaged the Earth of this universe and then used the Book of Destiny to massacre all its inhabitants, leaving Barry Allen as the only known survivor.[1][2][3][4]

It is unknown if Earth-90 was truly destroyed by The Monitor or if it was just a dead universe like Earth-15. However, on December 10, 2019, during the crisis, the entire multiverse was destroyed by the antimatter wave meaning this universe or any remnants of it were destroyed regardless. It is unknown if a identical universe was made in it's place following the rebirth of the multiverse.

  • It is similar to both Earth-1 and Earth-38 due to the existence of real-life figures such as celebrities and politicians, law enforcement, crime, vigilantism, government, history, historical events, holidays, politics, political issues, everyday life, physical laws, nature, science, popular culture and technology unlike many other Earths.
  • The I.R.S. (Internal Revenue Service) exists on Earth-90.
  • Earth-90's existence disproved Kara Danvers' statement that only 52 Earths exist in the multiverse (53 including Earth-X) and built up the titular Infinite Earths for the upcoming Crisis.
  • Both Arkham and Lois Lane are referenced in the 1990's The Flash series in the episodes "Child's Play" and "Captain Cold" respectively, suggesting that Earth-90 may also have a Batman and Superman.
    • However, in the episode "Child's Play", Barry also walked past a movie theater that displayed posters for Superman: The Movie and Batman, which were released in 1978 and 1989 respectively. Given the fact that the episode "Captain Cold" takes place after "Child's Play", it could also be that Barry was making a film reference in-universe when he referred to Lois Lane.
  • Gorilla Grodd is mentioned as a foe defeated by Nightshade, pre-Flash. It's not made clear whether he's actually a gorilla or, as with many other elements of the 90’s show, grounded closer to realism and grittiness.
  • When asked if Flash had been built in a lab, Barry jokingly hypothesized that a Professor Zoom was behind the hero's origin. He then had to pretend to be a mad scientist character based on the joke.
  • Barry Allen of Earth-90 indicates that on his Earth, Diggle is the Green Lantern, this is a reference to John Stewart (the second Green Lantern of Sector 2814), but on this Earth his last name is Stewart instead of Diggle.
  • Actual supervillains were a rarity on Earth-90, at least in Central City; the only five known to have entered during the 1990s were Mirror Master, Trickster, the Ghost, Deadly Nightshade and Captain Cold.
  • Technically speaking; Earth-90 was the first known universe in the multiverse that was destroyed; however it was destroyed by the Monitor instead of his counterpart, also, it appears to have been destroyed by the power of the Book of Destiny instead of a wave of antimatter; and well before the crisis itself started (comparable to Earth-2's destruction: it is unknown if it was just earth or the whole universe itself that was destroyed, but any remnants would be destroyed along with every other world during the crisis regardless).
  • Barry Allen got a quick glimpse of this Earth, Earth-16, Earth-18 and Earth-38 the first time he travelled through the multiverse in the breaches.

Behind the scenes

  • The number 90 is a reference to the original 1990s television series, The Flash.
    • Marc Guggenheim later confirmed on Twitter that the '90s series actually takes place on Earth-90.[5]
  • The dead warriors of this Earth, while not named, depict various versions of DC Comics characters. These include Stargirl, Hawkgirl, Huntress, Hawkman, Green Arrow, Captain Cold, Firestorm, the Ray, Jesse Quick and Obsidian.
    • In the 1990's The Flash episode "Watching the Detectives", Tina tells her secretary to let Dr. Carter Hall know that Tina will be in the gene-splicing lab. Carter Hall is the alias of numerous Hawkmen, so there could be a connection between Dr. Carter Hall and the dead Hawkman.
  • Real-life similarities (all of which has been mentioned and/or seen) that have been confirmed to exist on Earth-90 include people such as Elvis Presley, Madonna, and Mother Teresa.
  • And Organizations such as the U.S. Internal Revenue Service, as well as government positions such as the Vice President (Earth-90).
