"The multiverse has a way of aligning fates...It's written in the stars and in this book, or I wouldn't know that on this Earth, Clark Kent is Superman. Where I come from, that would be ridiculous. He can't see past his glasses." This article is about the location set in the Smallville universe. This article only contains information relevant to the Arrowverse. For information regarding that universe, please see Earth-167. |
- "You will always be my greatest enemy on any Earth. It's written in the stars and in this book, or I wouldn't know that on this Earth, Clark Kent—heh heh—is Superman."
- —Lex Luthor to Clark Kent[src]
Earth-167 was one of many universes in the original multiverse.
History
During the Anti-Monitor Crisis, Clark Kent of this universe was visited by Clark Kent and Lois Lane of Earth-38 and Iris West-Allen of Earth-1, who attempted to ask him to join them to stop the Anti-Monitor. However, Lex Luthor of Earth-38 appeared and sent them away, before attempting to kill Clark with a piece of Green Kryptonite. He realized that Clark no longer had his powers, before Clark punched him and Lex disappeared, 'taunting' Clark with his incoming doom.[1]
As foretold by Lex, Earth-167, along with the rest of the multiverse, was destroyed by antimatter during the Anti-Monitor Crisis.[2] However, a new universe was created by the Spectre and the Paragons as part of the new multiverse,[3] which is said to be identical to this universe; Clark and Lois supposedly continued to live.[4]

Behind the scenes
- This universe is seemingly home to the Smallville television series. The number 167 is a nod to the show's producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar both being born in 1967.[5]
- However, this Earth being part of the Arrowverse multiverse is somewhat inconsistent with both Season 10 and the comics continuity of Smallville, in which the main Smallville Earth is classified as Earth-1, while there are others such as Earth-2, Earth-Omega and Earth-Majestic. Also, in the comics continuity of Smallville, the heroes encounter and defeat a species named Monitors (not to be confused with the Arrowverse Maltusian Mar Novu - ironically, more closely matching his antimatter counterpart Mobius/Anti-Monitor), dedicated to break down and deconstruct the multiverse, using a form of antimatter nicknamed "The Bleed". Due to these multiple mismatches, whether or not this universe is the exact same one of Smallville is highly questionable.
- This may be explained as a result of a group of "local" multiverses similar to the local 53 universes originally known to exist to the residents of Earth-1, as well as some residents of Earth-2 originally referring to their universe as Earth-1 before learning the correct designation. For instance, Harry Wells of Earth-2 once mentioned that he thinks of Earth-1 as "my Earth-2"; considering Earth-2 (his home) to be what he'd refer to as Earth-1.[6]

- According to Marc Guggenheim, this scene was written by Don Whitehead and Holly Henderson who originally were writers on Smallville. This allowed them to show the audience where Tom Welling's Superman is ten years later.[7]
- Furthermore, Tom Welling stated that he would only return for the cameo if he didn't have to don the mantle of Superman. He wanted to portray the character as having turned into a paternal Jonathan Kent figure for his family.[8]
- In the DC Comics, Earth-167 is the universe where best friends Lex Luthor and Clark Kent are Superman and Batman respectively.
- This can also be seen as a nod to the series itself where Clark and Lex were initially friends before becoming enemies.
