The Biggoron's Sword is a recurring Item in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2]
Location and Uses
Ocarina of Time

In Ocarina of Time, its first appearance, the Biggoron's Sword is a far sturdier version of the Giant's Knife, which Biggoron crafted for the Master Craftsman, and is a very powerful sword.[3][4] It can be obtained completing the Trading Quest.[5] The blade is much longer than the Master Sword and deals twice as much damage (therefore four times the strength of the Kokiri Sword). However, it must be wielded with two hands due to its large size, meaning that Link cannot defend with a Shield while equipped, similar to the Megaton Hammer. If the Shield button is pressed, he attempts to protect himself with the blade.
Despite being the strongest weapon, the Biggoron's Sword is incapable of defeating Ganon, as only the Master Sword can deliver the final blow (the sword will simply miss otherwise). However, it can be useful during the Final Boss battle, as Ganon knocks the Master Sword out of reach before getting it back.
Oracle of Seasons

The Biggoron's Sword is the strongest Sword in Oracle of Seasons. It can only be acquired in a Linked Game by using passwords. The Biggoron's Sword is obtained from Biggoron himself like in Ocarina of Time. While every other item in these games is assigned to one hand and can be used in conjunction with another, the Biggoron's Sword takes up both slots as it is held with both hands. Link swings it in a whole 180-degree arc, as opposed to the other Swords' 90-degree slash. The Biggoron's Sword is 67% stronger than the Noble Sword and 150% stronger than the Wooden Sword. Excluding the 180-degree arc, the only other difference from the Master Sword is that it can kill Armos in one hit.
Oracle of Ages
The Biggoron's Sword is the strongest Sword in Oracle of Ages, as it works exactly as Seasons. It can only be acquired in a Linked Game by using passwords. The Biggoron's Sword is obtained from the Goron Elder who resides at the Goron Shooting Gallery, after telling him the Elder Secret and scoring 300 points at the Shooting Gallery. The Biggoron's Sword is 67% stronger than the Noble Sword and 150% stronger than the Wooden Sword. Excluding the 180-degree arc, the only other difference from the Master Sword is that it can kill Armos in one hit.
Breath of the Wild
In Breath of the Wild, the Biggoron's Sword is an amiibo exclusive two-handed Weapon. The Weapon will rarely appear in a Treasure Chest after scanning the Ocarina of Time Link amiibo using the amiibo Rune, but only after freeing one of the Divine Beasts. It is noted to have been forged by a Goron craftsman for a hero who travelled through time, with a cutting edge that speaks to its creator's mastery.[2] It has a base attack power of 50, and its durability rating is 60.
Biggoron's Sword is made of metal, and will therefore attract Lightning if it is equipped during a Thunderstorm and conduct Electricity. It will also sink in Water, but since it is magnetic, it can be picked up with the Magnesis Rune. Finally, it will not burn if exposed to Fire or a Scorching Climate.
Tears of the Kingdom
In Tears of the Kingdom, the Biggoron's Sword can be obtained at Akkala House of Bones, which is located in the The Depths directly under Skull Lake. The sword has a base attack power of 36. Like other similar items, to obtain the sword once more, it can be bought from Bargainer Statues of the depths for a price of 150 Poes.
Other Appearances
SoulCalibur II
In SoulCalibur II, the Biggoron's Sword is one of Link's unlockable weapons. Paired off with the Hylian Shield, the Biggoron's Sword can be bought in Merak, Antares, or Pollux for 4000 Gold while playing the Weapon Master Mode. When Link equips it, his attack goes up to 130% while his defense stays the same. Although the Biggoron's Sword is quite powerful due to its long reach, it is wielded with only one hand as opposed to two, and thus slightly drains Link's health with each swing.[6]

A masterfully crafted long sword forged by the best blacksmith in Hyrule, Biggoron, who lives on Death Mountain. Designed specifically for Link, it is made to be wielded with one hand. Even so, swinging it with full force gets tiring after a while. |

Hyrule Warriors
In Hyrule Warriors, the Giant Blade that Impa wields is based on the Biggoron Sword. The final tier of the moveset is the Biggoron Sword itself, though modified as a curved Sword instead of a straight one.
Trivia
- In the original Nintendo 64 version of Ocarina of Time, the Biggoron's Sword is sheathed in the same Scabbard as the Master Sword. However, in Ocarina of Time 3D, the massive blade receives its own unique scabbard. It also has its own in Breath of the Wild.
- The Biggoron's Sword, alongside the Giant's Knife, is the first Sword in the Zelda series to outclass the Master Sword in raw power (although the Master Sword can be upgraded in A Link to the Past), but the Biggoron's Sword has the major advantage in durability.
- During cutscenes or in his idle animations in Ocarina of Time, if Link is wielding the Biggoron's Sword he can be seen holding it with only one hand like the Master Sword, despite the weapon itself being specifically designed for two hands.
- The Great Fairy's Sword and Fierce Deity Sword in Majora's Mask coincidentally shares the same strength as the Biggoron's Sword, as both of those powerful swords deal four times the damage as the Kokiri Sword. While the Biggoron's Sword is longer than the Great Fairy counterpart, the one used by Fierce Deity Link is on-par in length.
- The Broken Goron's Sword seen in the Trading Quest is actually a broken Biggoron's Sword rather than a Giant's Knife.
- Being a hefty bastard sword, in Breath of the Wild, Link notably carries the Biggoron's Sword like that of a zweihänder. In Ocarina of Time, however, he holds the blade upright, while in Soul Calibur II he even carries it in one hand similar to as seen in cutscenes in the N64 title, suggesting the Hero of Time to be physically stronger than the Hero of the Wild incarnation.
- In Ocarina of Time, there are a few animations of Link holding the Biggoron's Sword that were originally planned to appear in the game but are cut for unknown reasons, such as himself actually defending with the blade in a crouching position as well as an idle one where he stylishly swings the weapon.
- If Link was to ignore obtaining the Giant's Knife and gain the Biggoron's Sword, and then speak to Medigoron, he will talk to Link as if he has a non-broken Giant's Knife when it is in fact the Biggoron's Sword. This is likely due to the fact from both weapons sharing the same model.
- Although a deadly sword and it can harm Ganon during the final battle, the likely reason why the Biggoron's Sword is unable to deliver the finishing blow onto the main antagonist in Ocarina of Time is due to the fact that unlike the Master Sword, in spite of it being more powerful than the legendary blade, this weapon does not have the magical ability to vanquish evil, story-wise.
- The Biggoron's Sword is commonly used by players in Ocarina of Time or its remake who aim for 100% completion or speedruns.
- In spite of the Biggoron's Sword having the Crest of the Gorons on its guard in official artwork, the weapon's model when on Link's hand in Ocarina of Time shows it having the Crest of the Sheikah instead (this also applies to the Master Sword). It is unknown why such detail was added to this sword.
- Ocarina of Time contains unused text for the Giant's Knife, meant to be displayed when it is exchanged for the Biggoron's Sword, provided that Link possesses the Giant's Knife. The game itself makes no mention of the replacement, and instead the Giant's Knife is simply discarded.[7]
- Despite the Biggoron's Sword in Ocarina of Time being famously known to be unbreakable like the Master Sword,[8]in Breath of the Wild, the sword will indeed break, due to the game's weapon ruleset, similar to the Giant's Knife. Interestingly, the Biggoron's Sword in-game model has nicks across the blade, indicating it has lost its unbreakable status due to long age and therefore justifying the gameplay. However, replacements can be acquired by using the Ocarina of Time amiibo (Rune) again, though they rarely appear. The damage on the blade is retained in Tears of the Kingdom and will break once again.
