Location and Uses
Ocarina of Time
The Megaton Hammer is a powerful and heavy steel hammer found as the key item for the Fire Temple in Ocarina of Time. It is used to break apart large rocks (except gray ones which require the Silver Gauntlets) and smash in rusted Switches to make them function. It can also be used to destroy blocks for access to new areas and to open Secret Grottoes without the need of Bombs. Despite its great power, the Megaton Hammer inflicts as much damage as the Master Sword in combat, but it has slower swinging speed compared to Link's Swords. It can be used against certain enemies, such as Tektites, to flip them over and attack them. If used on the ground close to a wall with a Skullwalltula, it will knock the enemy off and defeat it without hitting it directly. It is also effective on Business Shrubs. Like the Biggoron's Sword, however, the Megaton Hammer, due to its weight, requires both hands to wield when equipped and Link cannot defend with his Shield. If the shield button is pressed, he attempts to protect himself with the hammer.
According to Goron legends, a mythic hero of the Gorons and an ancestor to Darunia, patriarch of the Gorons, used the Megaton Hammer in battle against Volvagia. Wielding it, he was victorious and sealed the dragon in the fires of Death Mountain.[4] Thus, it is necessary for the Hero of Time to defeat Volvagia with this item. The Megaton Hammer is also effective in the final battle with Ganon for attacking his tail during the phase when the Master Sword is knocked away.

SoulCalibur II
The Megaton Hammer is one of Link's weapons in SoulCalibur II. Paired off with the Hylian Shield, the Megaton Hammer can be bought either in the Altair Shop or the Benetnasch Shop for 1,200 Gold while playing the Weapon Master Mode. The Megaton Hammer has a short reach; however, this is countered with the fact that Link's offense increases to 135%.[5]

The Megaton Hammer appears as the third-tier version of Darunia's Hammer. It has a much different appearance compared to Ocarina of Time as well as SoulCalibur II.

Trivia
- The Megaton Hammer's name is a pun of "megaton", a unit commonly used for nuclear weapon devices which measures a million tons of TNT.
- This item is likely based on the Magic Hammer from A Link to the Past, as that weapon also can knock certain enemies off the ground.
- Goron Link's punch shares the same sound effect as the Megaton Hammer when he hits a wall in Majora's Mask. It is also used for the man in Termina Field near the Astral Observatory when Link knocks him off a tree.
- Like the Deku Stick and Giant's Knife/Biggoron's Sword, if Link were to equip the Megaton Hammer during cutscenes or in his idle animations, he can be seen holding it with only one hand. This also applies to SoulCalibur II.
- Although SoulCalibur II is not canon to The Legend of Zelda series, despite sharing the same damage as the Master Sword in Ocarina of Time, the Megaton Hammer is one of the few weapons the Hero of Time owns in this game that is stronger than the sacred blade, and even slightly surpasses the Biggoron's Sword.
