Scorching Climates are recurring areas in The Legend of Zelda series.[name reference needed] In these areas, Link will burn unless he has fireproof equipment on.
Overview
A notable feature of the Death Mountain vicinity, a Scorching Climate is an area that is so hot that Link cannot remain in them indefinitely without protective equipment. Remaining too long in a Scorching Climate will, without exception, result in Link's death.
Ocarina of Time
Found in the Death Mountain Crater, the Fire Temple, and the Fire Medallion path of Ganon's Castle, Link requires a Goron Tunic to remain in a Scorching Climate indefinitely,[1] elsewise a countdown timer will start based on Link's current health. Gaining more Heart Containers, as well as filling up any empty ones whilst outside the hot zone, will allow Link more time. If the timer runs out, Link will burst into flames and perish instantly.
Breath of the Wild
Within Eldin's Death Mountain area, Link encounters two types of Scorching Climate and must have at least one level of Flame Guard in order to survive.[citation needed] He can obtain this by either consuming a sufficiently potent Fireproof Elixir or as many pieces of Fireproof Armor as he needs.
As Link ascends Death Mountain he finds the air getting even hotter, and must apply a second level of Flame Guard as just the one will no longer suffice.[citation needed]
Tears of the Kingdom
While Death Mountain no longer has its Scorching Climate, its counterpart in The Depths, which includes the Fire Temple, does. In addition, the sources of the various Hot Springs in Hyrule are from waterfall-like lava flows that come with Scorching Climate.[citation needed] Unlike in Breath of the Wild, Link never needs more than one layer of Flame Guard to survive.[citation needed]
