Kokiri Swords are recurring Items in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][name reference needed] In its two appearances in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, it is the most basic Sword the hero, Link, can obtain.
Location and Uses
Ocarina of Time
In Ocarina of Time, Link must obtain the Kokiri Sword alongside the Deku Shield before Mido allows him to visit the Great Deku Tree. The young hero can find the Kokiri Sword hidden away in a Treasure Chest inside the Hole of "L", which is located in the Forest Training Center in Kokiri Forest. This is the only Sword Link can wield as a child and is also the weakest. It is considered a treasure of the Kokiri.[2]
As an adult, the Hero of Time, it is replaced by the Master Sword, which is longer and has twice the strength. Interestingly and rather infamously, the Giant's Knife, which normally has the strength and range of the Biggoron's Sword (itself double that of the Master Sword), when broken becomes drastically weakened and has the equivalent performance of the Kokiri Sword (but still must be wielded with two hands).
Majora's Mask
In Majora's Mask, the Kokiri Sword is the same Kokiri Sword from the game's prequel (with an updated hilt), and is equipped by default at the beginning of the game.[3] Once again the weakest blade, it can be upgraded to the temporary Razor Sword and then again into the permanent Gilded Sword by taking it to the Mountain Smithy in Mountain Village. Although Link begins the game with the Kokiri Sword, he is unable to use it for a time when he is first transformed into a Deku Scrub by the Skull Kid.
Other Appearances
Ocarina of Time (Himekawa)
In the Ocarina of Time manga by Akira Himekawa, Link receives the Kokiri Sword from Mido after they defeat Gohma. It is also used to carve a Deku Shield out of the Great Deku Tree's wood.
Majora's Mask (Himekawa)
Unlike the game's optional side quest to upgrade his weapon into the Razor Sword or Gilded Sword, Link retains the Kokiri Sword throughout the Majora's Mask manga by Akira Himekawa.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
In Super Smash Bros. Melee, the Kokiri Sword appears in its Ocarina of Time incarnation as the blade wielded by Young Link.
Hyrule Warriors
In Hyrule Warriors, the Kokiri Sword appears as Young Link's main Weapon as part of the Mask archetype. However, Link uses both hands to hold it, as it is larger than its core series appearance. The Kokiri Sword may be a two-handed weapon as Young Link's Fierce Deity Link form also uses a two-handed blade, and performs similar moves to Young Link.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
The Kokiri Sword is Young Link's main weapon in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Cadence of Hyrule
In Cadence of Hyrule, the Kokiri Sword is found in Hyrule Castle. It is only usable by Link. It deals four damage to an Enemy directly in front of Link. It is said to be intended for a future hero and is meant to defeat anything in Link's path.[4]

Trivia
- Despite being the same weapon in both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, the hilt and guard of the Kokiri Sword changes designs between the Nintendo 64 games.
- This Sword is the signature weapon of the legendary Hero of Time at his young age in spite of being the first and least powerful blade in both of his main adventures in Hyrule and Termina.
- The Super Smash Bros. series uses the Ocarina of Time design while Hyrule Warriors uses the one from its sequel.
- When the Razor Sword breaks after 100 strikes, the blade becomes dull and will simply revert back to the Kokiri Sword. It also returns to its former shape when Link uses the "Song of Time" to go back to the First Day after obtaining this weapon. This does not occur with the more powerful and longer Glided Sword.
- In the data files of Majora's Mask, an early version of the Kokiri Sword exists of the blade entirely in wooden textures, resembling the starting Sword from The Legend of Zelda.
