Amiibo (Rune)

amiibo is a Rune ability in Breath of the Wild[1] and Tears of the Kingdom. The Rune enables compatible amiibo figures to be scanned into the game.

Location and Uses

Breath of the Wild

Unlike other Runes, amiibo support is activated via the Options menu of the game and available after obtaining the first Rune on the Great Plateau.[2] The support can also be disabled at any time.

Ability

When activated, the amiibo Rune allows for all available amiibo figures to be scanned into the game. A cursor appears in front of Link which can be moved to aim where the amiibo's effects will generate. At certain locations, the amiibo Rune will be deactivated, such as when the landing point is obstructed by something above, in Ancient Shrines, during the Eventide Island trial, or during the Trial of the Sword. Each amiibo figure can only be scanned once per day, with the exception of Wolf Link, which can be summoned indefinitely as long as it still has hearts remaining.

Scanning Results

Overview

The majority of available amiibo will grant random items and Materials. Most Zelda-related amiibo will drop both a Treasure Chest and Materials that drop from the sky, while some may also drop Crates and Barrels. The Treasure Chests may contain rare Gems, weapons and Armor, some of which are not otherwise available. Additionally, the Super Smash Bros. series Link amiibo and The Legend of Zelda series Twilight Princess-style Link amiibo can summon Epona, while the The Legend of Zelda series Wolf Link amiibo will exclusively summon Wolf Link into the game.

Some items, including exclusives, are only available depending on the game's progression and previous drops. Scanning one amiibo figure every day for 4 days and receiving drops from the "Normal chest" category each day will cause the scan to yield a drop from the "Rare chest" category on the 5th day.[3] A few of the weaker weapons are also only available before leaving the Great Plateau for the first time.[4] Items and probabilities under "A" will only happen before obtaining the Paraglider. Items and probabilities under "B" will happen after obtaining the Paraglider but before freeing the first Champion. Items and probabilities under "C" will happen any time after freeing the first Champion.
