Ranked is a playlist featured in XDefiant where players compete during a season to determine a rank. Ranked was added in Season 1.
Overview
In Ranked, players are matched with other players determined by the game to be of similar skill level. The game itself is handled in a 4v4 format, different from the regular 6v6, and will not start with less than 8 players. Ranked matches also have ability and ultra restrictions, where only one player from each team will be able to select each ability. Players can progress through 7 leagues by winning matches and earning a unique experience type called RP. Every 100 RP, a new rank is obtained. Ranked has changes to mode rule sets in order to balance the play further than the regular modes. The game modes available for Ranked are Domination, Occupy, Zone Control, CTF and Escort. In Ranked, player loadouts have all weapons and attachments unlocked, to a maximum of 10 items to be chosen. Using a weapon that is not unlocked for unranked playlists will not earn weapon XP for that weapon.
Each season has a warmup period to allow players to adapt to the new rule sets before the ranked season officially starts. When matchmaking in ranked, the player will be in a lobby with others 30 levels above or below their current rank. This same restriction also applies when matchmaking in a party, although Diamond and Legends players can only queue in parties of 2. If a player leaves during the map voting section, the pre-match timer will reset. Ranked games will find other players based on the average RP of the party, weighted towards the highest ranked player.
RP is earned by winning matches in Ranked. The amount of RP distributed to each winning player is based off of their individual performance in the match. Losing a match will result in a loss of RP. The amount of RP lost is based off match performance, where high performance shields from a harsh RP loss. Being kicked from a match for being idle or voluntarily quitting a match will result in an RP loss of 50 points. Players in the Bronze league will not lose any RP on a match loss. A 75 point buffer is provided to players whose match loss will cause a drop in rank, where if the loss in RP is in the buffer, they will not drop rank.
The maximum ping for a Ranked match is 125 ping. The first matchmaking wave will attempt to place the player in lobbies with only the same input device, but will relax this rule in later waves.
At the start of each season, players in Silver or above will be reset back to Silver, but their rank within Silver is determined by the previous season's rank. Bronze players will not be reset. At the end of each league, seasonal awards are obtained depending on the rank obtained during the season. These ranks will not be lost if the player lowers in rank later in the season.

Patch Notes
- Minor tuning of the Rank Point formula to speed progression through the Silver, Ruby, and Diamond ranks.
- Players no longer see the incorrect selection for their next map when voting for "Random Map and Mode" in Ranked play.
- Season 2 also debuts Ranked Loadouts, a new loadout category with 10 slots. Ranked Loadouts allow players to create custom loadouts from all launch weapons, attachments, and devices in Ranked play even if they haven't unlocked them. The tradeoff is that if a player selects a weapon for their loadout that they have not yet unlocked, they will receive no XP progression on that weapon. (Owned weapons will progress normally.) This system doesn't apply to skins, faction characters, or any post-launch weapons/attachments/devices that players have not unlocked.
- Corrected an issue in Ranked mode preventing PC keyboard users from confirming their pre-selected Ability if a teammate has the same faction pre-selected.
- Ranked mode now uses the party's average Ranked level to find new players (with the average weighted toward the highest-level player in the party).
- Ranked play now has ability restrictions. This means any given ability can only be chosen by one player per team, thus encouraging teammates to select different abilities. (The player's ability is shaded orange to distinguish it from teammate abilities, which remain shaded gray.) If the player switches to another unused ability during the match, it will be available upon respawn, freeing up their previously selected ability.
- Ranked mode has been tuned to speed up rank progression while also increasing loss forgiveness, so losses are less likely to cause a tumble in your rank.
- Players now earn increased Rank Points for delivering a winning performance in all ranks except Legends. On average, players should see about 30 percent more RP from won matches.
- On the flipside, match losses are more forgiving due to an increase in the "loss buffer" from 45 to 75 Rank Points. Translation: Losing players whose Rank Points drop to the next lower rank will not fall in rank if they remain within that buffer threshold.
- Don't sweat it if you lose a Ranked match in Bronze: Now the loss won't cost you any Rank Points.
- To discourage Ranked mode competitors from bailing mid-match, the Rank Point penalty for quitting has increased from 40 RP to 50 RP.
- Fixed two Ranked matchmaking bugs: One that was preventing Ranked players from matchmaking in the Ranked lobby, and a second bug that let Ranked players invite other players outside the matchmaking restrictions (for instance, players of a much higher rank) while waiting in the queue.
- Fixed an issue that would send players all the way back to the main menu after finishing a Ranked match.
- Input Priority has been added to Ranked Matchmaking.
- Updated RP ranges to be wider for our Matchmaking Searcher.
- Tweaked the Ranked mode pre-game. Ranked matches now won't start with less than 8 players. The Leave button has also been nixed from the map-voting screen to discourage players from dropping out (and Ranked matches will cancel if players manage to skedaddle during map voting).
- CTF mode is now available in Ranked play.
- Added menu text clarifying that the Bronze rank unlocks at the first victory.
- Fixed an issue that was displaying the little padlock icon on Ranked Rewards despite players earning them fair and square.
