Maps are the designated areas where players fight each other in XDefiant. All maps are derived from various Ubisoft game series, including Tom Clancy's The Division, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, Far Cry, Watch Dogs and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six. Maps are divided into 2 types: Arena and Linear.
XDefiant launched with 14 maps, with 1 releasing per month during a season.
Arena Maps are traditional maps where players are enclosed within a rectangular-like space sectioned into 3 horizontal/vertical lanes of combat, often filled with ample cover. In addition, there are 2 spawn areas on opposite ends of each map, which swap if the enemy team has gained a great presence within another team's spawn area.
Linear Maps, also known as Progression Maps, are long, linear-type maps sectioned off into multiple areas which require a certain checkpoint/objective to be completed. Once an objective has been completed by the attacking team, the next area opens up and spawn areas shift to that area, making the previous area no longer a point of interest. This continues until the attacking team wins or the defending team stops the attackers from advancing further.
