The M728 CEV (Combat Engineer Vehicle) is one of the vehicles available to the United States in Wargame: AirLand Battle, it's main weapon is a short barrelled gun that fires a powerful HE round that can easily stun ground targets.
History
M728 CEV is based off the chassis of M60 Patton tank with the 105mm rifled tank gun used on the standard M60/A1/A3 replaced by 165mm M135 short-barreled demolition gun. M165 was licensed-built copy of the 165 mm L9A1 gun that was used on the British Army's FV4003 Centurion Mk.5 AVRE with 30 rounds of HEP (High Explosive, Plastic) ammunition.
The M135 purpose is to destroy defense fixtures and obstacles and buildings. Along with the M135, it is armed with a M240 and M85 machinegun.
M728 CEV has a dozer blade along with a A-frame crane boom hinged on either side of the turret and a winch. First deployed in 1965 during the Vietnam War and left Active Army service in 2000. It left active service since based on the M60 chassis it wasn't able to keep up with M1 equipped units. It still used in the National Guard and Reserve units along with Oman, Portugal, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Singapore.
Each of the Engineer Companies in the Heavy Division and Corps (Mechanized)'s Engineer Battalion has two. While the Engineer Companies in the Separate Mechanized Infantry brigade, Armored Brigade and Berlin Brigade, along with the engineer company of Armored Cavalry Regiment has three.
Overview
AirLand Battle
With it's slow rate of fire (4), high suppression capability (380) and high HE power (10) the M728 CEV is best used for clearing dug-in infantry especially in an urban combat scenario, not only will the massive HE damage deal heavy damage to infantry squads of all types, it will also suppress them easily, enabling an assaulting force to close the distance without too much trouble and assault hostile infantry in close quarters combat.
