M125A1 | M106A1 | M106A2 |
The M106A1 is a U.S Mortar Carrier which is available to the NATO forces. It is a variant of the M106A2 but has less ammunition and reduced power.
History
During the developed of M113, it was planned to have 82mm and 107mm Mortars Carriers. M125A1 was the 81mm mortar carrier and M106 was the 107mm carrier. M106A1 has M113A1 chassis with 6V53 diesel engine
Each 70s Cavalry platoon had one M106A1 while the more modern Cavalry troop had two to three mortars in a mortar section. The Armored and Mechanized Infantry Battalions along the three infantry battalions of the Berlin Brigade had a mortar platoon of 6 M106A2.
Tactics
The Mortar Carrier is great for harassing tactics. You can quickly move the vehicle close range but out of enemy fire to reign down on enemies then quickly pull out with good maneuverability. But once they get too close to enemy fire they suffer due to their poor armor.
