The M125A1 is one of the few mortar carriers available for NATO, and one of the few mortar carriers available in the Wargame series on the whole. The M125A1 features a mortar with much ammunition to keep firing and a machine gun for close encounters with infantry.
History
The M125A1 is a member of the M113 family produced by FMC. Based off the M113A1, M125A1 is modified to carry an 81mm mortar as its primary armament. The 81mm mortar is fires out of the hatches on the rear deck. Most of the space that was used to carry the infantry is now used to store the mortar, the ammunition for the mortar, mortar crew and dismount equipment for the mortar.
The Berlin Brigade's infantry companies each has a mortar platoon equipped with M125. While 1980's M113 equipped Mechanized Infantry companies has three M125 in a Mortar Platoon.
Overview
Mortar carriers fill the gap inbetween standard combat engagement range and supporting artillery range, enabling quick fire support without the risk of putting artillery units close to the frontline, they are best used in squads of four in order to cover the maximum target area.
They also can keep an area suppressed longer than artillery can due to having more rounds in general and being closer, flushing out infantry from woods or buildings.
