Leptys

Um, like, if they succeed in, like, invoking the Leptys, uh,like, the world will be, like, go up in smoke, dude.
~ Roméo warning about the consequences of invoking the Leptys to give André and Reflux his power.

The Leptys is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside Great Spirit Palmito) of the video game, Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc.

He is a bird-like deity who was responsible for the creation of the Knaaren race and worshipped by his creations as well as granting anyone his power through the Sceptre of the Leptys originally held by Gumsi. After Reflux stole the sceptre from Gumsi, he uses it to invoke the Leptys to give him his power as well as the needs for the Hoodlums to multiply to conquer the world even at a cost of starting an apocalypse.

Appearance

True Form

As his true form remains unseen, the statue is able to describe the Leptys's appearance as an enormous eagle-like bird. Its features consisted of him with his wings to be much higher with the tips used for fingers, blue eyes and a sharp beak. These hints of the Leptys having blue eyes snd a shatp beak are supported with Gumsi's staff as a part of the Sceptre.

Leptys Reflux

As a fusion between him and Reflux, Leptys Reflux reflux would start as being a mutated Knaaren with pale tan brown skin with yellow highlights, dititigraded legs, three each fingers and toes on each hand and foot and blood-shot red eyes. In his second and third phase, Leptys Reflux mutates when he becomes more muscular and the yellow highlights mutated into his swelling and bubbling flesh with the Sceptre of the Leptys attached to his back. In his final form, Leptys Reflux would grow a pair of wings that gives him the ability to fly.

Personality

Not much is known about Leptys' personality, however, he is likely described as being omniscient, honorable and willing as he grants Gumsi's invoke to grant Rayman his power to revert any Black Lum into a Red Lum. After Reflux stoles the Sceptre from Gumsi and invokes the Leptys to grant his power, the Leptys is shown to be more willing to grant him enough power to mutate and fuse with him to become Leptys Reflux and grant André enough power for his Hoodlums to multiply. In doing so, the Leptys has shown a much more destructive and chaotic side when it influences a distorted weather all over the Tower of the Leptys and upgrading Reflux's power in destroying the tower.

Biography

Past

The Leptys was a powerful deity who existed in the Glade of Dreams and had implied to be the one responsible for the extinction of a race of large gargantuan creatures with their bones left behind and their land reduced into the Desert of the Knaaren with their screams of agony can still be heard even in death. He created the Knaaren race where the Knaaren built the Tower of the Leptys at the Summit Beyond The Clouds to worship him as he is viewed by them as the Bringer of Night and Father of the Knaaren people. At some point, he would grant the Knaaren child-king, Gumsi, the Sceptre of the Leptys which was an artifact he created and influences with his energy to be connected to it, given a purpose to grant the holder of the sceptre his powers. With that, a statue of him was made to proceed with the method when the Leptys is invoked and thus granted the Knaaren the powers to become invincible beasts to guard the desert from any invaders and be on their hunt for Teensies to find and kill as their prey. In one point, the Leptys would grant a power to one of the Knaaren by bestowing him with the ability of fire, thus transforming him into the Firemonster.

Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc

During the Hoodlum invasion and travel through the Desert of the Knaaren, Rayman stumbles to the Leptys's temple where he goes to rescue Globox who was under captivity by the Knaaren as one manages to find and take him away to ensure he doesn't escape this time. Through the way, Rayman lured a Knaaren to step on a button in front of the statue to make his way to jump on platforms to get on top of it to continue his search and rescue. After Rayman's capture and victory in defeating Reflux, everyone headed to the temple where Gumsi uses the sceptre to invoke the Leptys to grant Rayman his power. The Leptys grants Rayman his power with a grimace to revert Black Lums back to Red Lums.

After André escaped tne Teensie Doctors and regrouped with his forces, he led the surviving Black Lums of the desert to Reflux where he arranged a deal to steal the sceptre and he will earn his revenge on killing Rayman. Once Reflux is successful of stealing the sceptre, he, André and the Hoodlums head to the Summit Beyond The Clouds where they had fortified the summit, built their headquarters and took over the tower to make preparations to use the Sceptre of the Leptys to give the Hoodlums the energy to multiply and take over the Glade. While Rayman breached the summit and the Hoodlum Headquarters was destroyed, André and Reflux made their move as the Leptys awakens and arrives out of darkness in a cloud-like formation to help them both. Once he arrives, he channels his lightning to the sceptre, granting him his power and mutating him with André and the Black Lums to be a part of him to multiply through the Leptys's power. In doing so, his presence will result to a weather distortion around the temple, the lava to overflow and nearby pillars to collapse.

Rayman reaches to the top of the tower to find Reflux in his mutated form as a result of the Leptys giving him his power with some piece of the tower seen being torn off. From the sight, Rayman knew that the sceptre posed a dangerous weapon and the Leptys's involvement will help the Hoodlums achieve their goal as well as potentially putting the whole world in an apocalypyic state if they win and to stop them is to destroy it. Once Rayman beats his first mutated form, Reflux attaches the sceptre to his back as the Leptys gives him the ability to become a giant thus becoming a part of him as the tower starts to tear apart even more from the wind he produces due to his influence empowering Reflux's mutation. After Rayman beats him in his second round, the Leptys gives him the energy to float where the tower is being fully destroyed to prevent Rayman from reaching Reflux but Rayman races to the upper platform to aim and shoot at the sceptre, beating him in his third round. Before Rayman could complete his victory grimace, the Leptys grants Reflux his fully grown Leptys form where he flies into the Leptys's cloud formation to his landscape with Rayman and Globox pursuing him in their Armaguiddon.

At the Leptys's landscape, the astral plane, Rayman battled against Reflux where he shoots at the sceptre to weaken him and shoots at the Hoodlums to reduce the energy Reflux needs to defeat Rayman. Once the sceptre of the Leptys is destroyed, Reflux crystalizes and shatters to death with André being turned back into a Red Lum by Rayman's grimace. Following this, the Leptys is presumably destroyed when Rayman and Globox are blasted back to their starting point at the Fairy Council.

Trivia

  • Given the fact that Polokus is the god of the Glade of Dreams in the Rayman franchise, it is unknown what the Leptys's connections with him are known about between the two. It is also not known if it could imply that the Leptys, himself, is either related to Polokus, simply another creation or possibly a nightmare formed from Polokus's dreams as Jano has been born from them.
  • The Leptys was intended to use its lighting attack out of its statue's eyes at Rayman on the platforms, but the behavior was scrapped from the final game.
  • In the early production of Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc, it was originally intended for the Leptys to be freed by Rayman from Reflux by shooting the mirrors directing magic rays and directly use the rays to shoot at the Sceptre to destroy it, but this was changed in the final game, making the Leptys an overarching antagonist as a result.
