AsteriosWP (アステリオス, Asuteriosu?), Class Name Berserker (バーサーカー, Bāsākā?), is a Berserker-class Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order. He is also summoned by Wolfgang Faustus in the Labyrinth Holy Grail War of Fate/Labyrinth.
Profile
Identity
Asterios is a monster (hero) that was given a name meaning "lightning" or "one who hails from the stars",[1] but he was almost never called by it. Instead, it was the alias of MinotaurosWP (ミーノータウロスWP, Mīnōtaurosu?), meaning "Bull of King Minos", that became widely known. Believing his name to be beautiful, Asterios never believed he was deserving of it.[1] Born from Pasiphae, wife of King Minos who ruled over the island of CreteWP, and the Cretan Bull, he is a monster since birth, possessing the body of a man and the head of a bull.[2]
Legend
Minos had promised the Sea God Poseidon to sacrifice the Divine Bull, later known as the Cretan Bull, given to him. But when the time came to sacrifice the Divine Bull, Minos kept it for himself and sacrificed a different bull in its stead. As punishment, Poseidon cursed Pasiphae into desiring the Creten Bull sexually, giving way to Asterios' birth.[1][2] Confused as to how to handle the scandal, Minos ordered the famous craftsman Daedalus to build the LabyrinthWP so Asterios could never escape. Confined within the darkness of his prison, Asterios began to long for the freedom of the outside world.[1][2]
It eventually became customary to offer seven boys and girls each as a sacrifice to Asterios at Minos' command. Because he did not wish to sacrifice his own people, the king demanded the sacrifices from AthensWP, which he had invaded, as compensation. When the third batch of sacrifices arrived, the hero Theseus stepped forward to personally bring Asterios down. Ariadne, the daughter of King Minos, fell in love with the handsome Theseus at first sight and provided him with the means to find his way out of the Labyrinth. Upon meeting Asterios, Theseus recognized his humanity and expressed his desire to save him.[4] Alas, he could not and was forced to slay him.[1] Even though Asterios was not evil by nature, his deeds were, thus he was fated to be brought low.[2]
As Asterios lay dying, he and Theseus talked about the blessings and curses of the lives they led until the monster finally expired. Asterios died grateful of Theseus for killing him as it finally gave him the freedom he so dearly wished for.[1]
Appearance
Asterios has a muscular body covered in scars and towers over most Heroic Spirits, being just under three meters tall. While not a complete hybrid between a man and a bull in appearance, he possesses animalistic traits, such as horns, a mane of wild, white hair, and black eyes with red irises.
He wears iron chest armor, iron rings around his arms, and a red piece of cloth from his waist to his feet, split into two sections. Around each ankle is an iron ring with an attached chain, linking a heavy, metal ball, which Asterios appears to have no problem wearing. In each hand, he holds an axe with incredibly long handles.
In his first Ascension, he wears an iron mask resembling a bull's head, reflecting his nature as the Minotaur, and carries axes with straight edges in each hand. In his second Ascension, the iron mask is removed, revealing his face, and the axes he wields are replaced by a pair with rounder edges, named Labrys. In his third Ascension, Asterios' mane grows even longer and wilder, and his horns turn red and grow thicker.

Personality
Due to the fact Asterios is a Berserker, his words are unsteady, but he is by far more docile than the other Berserkers. This is due to the fact he is still partially human, making mutual understanding with him possible, though this is rare.[2][1]
Asterios has the intelligence of a child but is extremely wise. He understands things such as ethics and common sense and because of that, he feels guilty about his own existence, viewing himself as a monster.[1]
So long as his Master perceived Asterios as human and not the monstrous Minotaur, he will not betray them.[2]
Relationships
- Euryale forged a friendship with Asterios during the Third Singularity and engraved an unforgettable memory in his mind. If she laughs and appears to be having fun, he will somehow find it enjoyable for himself too.[1] This is especially noticeable when Euryale is with her sisters, Stheno and Medusa, with Asterios noting that Euryale seems to have more with them, much to his delight.[3] During their services to Chaldea, the two were often found loitering around and playing with each other.[1]
- Circe
- Circe is Asterios's maternal aunt, with her being his mother's sister. Asterios is noted to treat and address her politely and calls her “Auntie”, much to the latter’s embarrassment. Circe has shown to be fond of her nephew.
- Minos
- Asterios has no love for Minos, whom he regards as his father. At the same time, he does not hate Minos either despite him arguably carrying the most blame for his tragic life by refusing to sacrifice the Cretan Bull and locking him in the Labyrinth. This is largely due to the fact he was the one to give Asterios his name, which the monster considers to be too beautiful for a beast like himself, and although he was locked up for most of his life, he did finally achieve the freedom he desired when Theseus killed him.[1]
- Theseus
- A young man who became a hero and defeated Asterios. Initially desiring to slay Asterios, Theseus came to recognize the monster's humanity upon meeting him and desired to save him instead. Alas, he would fail in this endeavor and be forced to slay him. On the verge of his death, Asterios talked with Theseus of the blessings and curses they received. Asterios is grateful to Thesseus for killing him, as it finally gave him the freedom he desired dearly.[1][4]
Role
Fate/Grand Order
Third Singularity: Okeanos
Asterios acts as Euryale's protector, having constructed a Labyrinth as well as a Bounded Field around the island they're on to protect her. When Ritsuka, Mash Kyrielight and Francis Drake enter the Labyrinth, Asterios attacks them, believing that they've come to capture Euryale. However, he is severely wounded in the battle, which prompts Eurayle to stop any further fighting before he is killed. Asterios and Eurayle agree to come with the group, and Asterios disables the Bounded Field around the island.
However, soon after departing the island, the group is beset by Edward Teach and his crew. Asterios tries to fight Eric Bloodaxe to protect Euryale, but Mash stops him by fighting Eric Bloodaxe instead. When Francis Drake's ship is heavily damaged by Edward Teach's ship, Asterios dives underwater and carries the ship with his massive strength to a nearby island despite his wounds not being healed yet.

Later on, during the second battle with Blackbeard's forces, Hector manages to kidnap Euryale from Asterios, escaping with both her and the Holy Grail. The party manages to track down Hector, who had escaped onboard the Argo, led by Jason. Jason sends Heracles and Medea Lily to fight the party, with Asterios engaging in a battle with Heracles. During this battle, Hector uses his Durindana to impale both Heracles and Asterios, attempting to take down Asterios while Heracles would survive through his God Hand. However, Asterios instead jumps into the ocean with Heracles, allowing for his allies to escape, while fading away himself.
Christmas Event: The Second Generation is Alter
Asterios allows EMIYA, Nursery Rhyme, and Jack the Ripper to spend Christmas in his labyrinth this year. He apologizes to EMIYA that the labyrinth couldn't be quiet like he wanted. But EMIYA tells him not to worry as he got roped in too. He also tells him to embrace Christmas wholeheartedly, even if it is foreign to her. He then finishes cooking when Asterios senses someone nearby. After the girls run off to see who they assume to be Santa, EMIYA gets a confidential message from Chaldea. He and Asterios are thus made aware of Ritsuka's plan to help Jeanne Alter Santa Lily.
Alter Lily believes Asterios doubts she's Santa because she's a child. She tells him that she is indeed Santa and demands to know what he wants. Asterios answers he wants fun days like today to last as long as possible. Alter Lily realizes she cannot grant such a wish. She then runs away upon realizing her gift to Jack and Nursery, a hermitage, wouldn't be good for them. Asterios asks what they should do, seeing it is a problem.
Asterios later joins his fellow co-conspirators as they watch Alter Lily look at the sea with her newfound friends. Jeanne d'Arc apologizes to for getting him involved, but he doesn't mind since Alter Lily’s wish was granted. Alter Lily then comes to talk with Ritsuka, so everyone except Ritsuka hides.
Final Singularity: Solomon
Asterios is amongst the "Okeanos" Singularity Servants to aid Chaldea against the Demon Gods Pillar.[5]
Interlude
This Hand, For You,
Asterios, Ritsuka, and Mash end up inside of a labyrinth, unable to contact Romani Archaman. As the group searches for an exit, Asterios realizes that they're inside his labyrinth. He escorts the others deeper in, and soon they encounter another Asterios killing and eating children. Asterios goes to stop it as it is his past. The other Asterios state, though, that he is nothing but a Minotaur. Asterios rejects him by saying his True Name aloud. As long as people call him by his True Name, he will reject himself as the Minotaur. After the other Asterios is defeated, he wonders if Asterios can reject himself, believing it to be a fate worse than death. Asterios answers that rejecting and abandoning everything about himself is both his punishment and atonement. After the other Asterios disappears, Asterios leads the others to the exit. He remembers that he wanted to hold someone's hand as he did now with Ritsuka.
Fate/Labyrinth
Asterios appears as an incomplete Servant summoned by Wolfgang Faustus. He helps Faustus hold back Caster, Archer and Assassin, but is eventually destroyed when Norma Goodfellow (with some help from Manaka Sajyou) destroy the Subcategory Holy Grail, causing him to fade away.
Abilities

Asterios is a Magical Beast and Anti-Hero.[2] A typical Berserker-class Servant, he mainly relying on brute strength. In combat, he duel wields a pair of axes which are represented in the Labrys of the Abyss Skill.
Despite his strength, he falls short when compared to other strong Greek heroes. In the Okeanos Singularity, when even having the aid of Ritsuka Fujimaru's party, Asterios was only barely able to take one Heracles' twelve lives and had it not been for Heraclues being focused on retrieving Euryale during their fight, Asterios wouldn't have stood a chance against him.[6]
Class Skills
- Mad Enhancement (B Rank): Rank up for all parameters, but takes away most of Servant's sanity. Asterios' speech is unsteady and he has the intellect of a child, though he is also wise and rather docile compared to most Berserkers. It is also possible, if rare, to come to a mutual understanding with him.[1][2]
Personal Skills
- Monstrous Strength (A Rank): An offensive special characteristic possessed only by monsters and Magical Beasts which temporarily amplifies the user's Strength Parameter by one rank. The duration for this increase depends on the rank the Servant has in this Skill.[1][2]
- Natural Demon (A++ Rank): A Skill given to those who were born a monster as opposed to a hero or god that has fallen down to the level of a Magical Beast. Asterios has attained a Rank of Strength and Endurance which is impossible for a human body.[1][2]
- Labrys of the Abyss (C Rank): The pair of giant axes Asterios wields owns. It symbolizes the LabyrinthWP and the source of that very word. It was originally a two-headed axe but Asterios rearranged it into two separate axes.[1]
Noble Phantasm
Asterios' Noble Phantasm is Chaos Labyrinthos, the manifestation of the Labyrinth that secluded him when he was alive. A greater magecraft almost equal to a Reality Marble, it is built in the underside of the world. Asterios only needs to remember the Labyrinth he used to live in to manifest it, with the difficulty of navigating it being befitting the popular conception of a labyrinth. Once manifested, it will not disappear until either Asterios is defeated or Asterios eliminates all his opponents. Even if it disappears, it is possible to manifest it again after some time. However, if it does not have a different layout from the anterior one, those trapped inside could easily escape as one cannot get lost in a solved labyrinth.[1][2]
Development
Creation and Conception
Asterios was designed by Shima Drill in Fate/Grand Order.[1][2] His scenario writer is Yuuichirou Higashide in Fate/Grand Order.[1]
