Alexander (アレキサンダー, Arekisandā?), Class Name Rider (ライダー, Raidā?), is a Rider-class Servant summoned by Ritsuka Fujimaru in the Grand Orders of Fate/Grand Order.
Profile
Identity
Alexander the Great, the King of Conquerors (征服王, Seifuku-Ō?), summoned as the child aspect known by the name Alexander rather than the adult aspect known as Iskandar. Known by many names, Alexander, Iskandar, Alexandros, Dhul-Qarnayn, and "he of the two horns," he was the young prince of the small kingdom of Macedonia in the 4th Century BC. Due to the influence of his mother Olympias, as a child he indulged in many tales of legendary heroes and came to believe he was the son of Zeus,[1] despite there being an absence of clear evidence.[4][2][5] He was known as a "peerless pretty boy" who was noticed by many sages, such as AristotleWP, as a prodigy. During this period of his life, he spent much of his time training as a soldier, studying philosophy and political sciences, and reading great legends. While he bloomed with many talents, he approved of every and all possibilities, able to be called the "personification of possibilities" itself.[2] He possessed a close friend, an "amazing man" who truly began to show his talents after Alexander's death, who would often drag him around rambunctiously in a manner to his later encounter with Taiga Fujimura, expanding Alexander's horizons thanks to his actions.[6] Though considered beautiful, his self-recognition in being the child of Zeus granted him strength, reducing his boyish looks over time.[2] He later encountered the Gordian KnotWP, cleaving the rope with his sword and taking the divine bulls offered to Zeus by King GordiusWP as his own for use with his chariot.[5]
Starting with succeeding the throne of Macedonia in Greece at the age of twenty, his conquest quickly subdued the neighboring countries and became the leader of CorinthWP. His eventually eyed his ambitions towards the straitsWP, seeking to extend his reign into Persia. Sweeping through from the far west with his army, none underestimated it, rumors of its might spreading through countries long before the army's arrival. As his army's great morale overwhelmed even the most devoted of warriors, they were even more shocked when he spared them, told them of his goal, and returned dominion of the lands to the nobles. He exclaimed to them that: "My goal is the end of the world. My destination is the furthest border of the East. I want to behold Oceanus with my own two eyes. I want to leave my footprints at the beach beside that endless sea.” Though they thought his words folly, many were rekindled to the dreams of their youth, setting off after Alexander to join his conquest.[7] During the conquest of Persia, Alexander came to view Darius III and his Athanaton Ten Thousand as a worthy rival, blocking Alexander's path numerous times.[8] The name Iskandar was given to him by the Arabs and the Persians.[9] Due to Darius' immense height, after finally conquering the Persian Empire, Alexander required the footstool of Darius' throne to be swapped with a table to properly sit on it despite his own great height. This played a part in history recording Alexander as being short.[7]
After Persia and with a goal of the most extreme eastern edge of Asia, they marched through Egypt and through western India during the "great eastern campaigns."[5][10] Marching without end, they crossed boiling deserts, passed over chilling, snow-capped mountains, and forded billowing rivers. They fought savage beasts and fought for their lives through numerous unknown foreign tribes displaying alien weapons and battle strategies. Although an innumerable number of soldiers died, they kept their great morale to the end, holding proud smiles and listening to the sounds of the ocean they sought in their hearts, despite never reaching it.[7] In the end, he brought about the largest empire in history to date and became the "great king who built the era known as the Hellenistic civilization." He reached the success of a great hero in just ten years after beginning his conquest, but soon died after living only a period of thirty three years.[5][7] His dying words, "Leave everything to the strongest." ended up splitting it apart instead.[9] His campaign to the East went as far as India. There, his troops and generals complained of fatigue, and so he turned back to Babylon, where he suddenly passed away. Following his death, the empire split into four warring factions that "quickly disappeared into the sands of history."[10]

Personality
Alexander is an innocent child who loves the epic poem IliadWP from the bottom of his heart. Summoned in this form, both his figure and mentality are that of his youth, but he has not lost his memories of his later life, though from after his adolescence don't entirely feel real to him. As he has the mentality of someone of one who is attempting to take his very first steps, he can assist his Master's own journey. He is driven to prevent the end of human history, as it would mean the end of even his own possibilities.[2]
Relationships
- Iskandar
- Alexander is impressed by what he will eventually turn into once he reaches adulthood, although it does not truly feel real to him. Conversely, Iskandar is fond of his younger self but feels a bit embarrassed by how immature and inexperienced Alexander is.[1][3]
- Darius III
- Alexander's future rival.[1]
- Zhuge Liang
- Due to the bond Liang's host, Lord El-Melloi II, has Iskandar, Waver acts as Alexander's advisor and teacher both during the Second Singularity and when they were summoned into Chaldea. Alexander feels a strange sensation when he is near him, being not quite able to remember his adult self's history with his teacher.[3][1]
- Gray
- A fellow student of El-Melloi II, Alexander was excited to make Gray's acquaintance, but did not wish their relationship to go further than classmates as "it would be more fun that way." Gray, who was familiar with their teacher's history with the King of Conquerors, was quite surprised to meet him in such a young form.[3][11]
- Heroes from the Illiad
- A huge fan of the Illiad, Alexander was excited to meet the heroes it described in Chaldae for the first time and was at a loss as to what to say to Achilles.[3]
- Cleopatra / Gaius Julius Caesar
- Both being fans of Iskandar, they were quite surprised that the masculine King of Conquerors was once cute like Alexander.[3]
- Napoleon Bonaparte
- A fan of Iskandar, Napoleon was excited to meet him and his younger counterpart.[3][12]
Role
Fate/Grand Order
Second Singularity: Septem
Alexander is summoned by Lev Lainur Flauros for the purposes of destroying the era. Romulus lends him his troops.[13] Lord El-Melloi II serves as his strategist. El-Melloi II advises they lure Lu Bu and Spartacus away from Nero Claudius‘ army, finding it lucky they didn’t materialize as other classes. Alexander wonders if his luck parameters were high, but El-Melloi II replies it just means reality is playing in their favor. He then expresses his wish to see Nero to discover what sort of ruler she is. El-Melloi II decides to grant that wish to Alexander’s embarrassment. Later, Alexander uses chained summoning to summon Darius III. He orders they attack the enemy’s rearguard while Darius distracts their vanguard. He knows Darius is his future rival, but postpones fighting him to meet Nero. His army then attacks Nero’s rearguard and captures Boudica.[14]
At their fortress, Alexander and El-Melloi II are confronted by Ritsuka, Mash, and Nero when they come to rescue Boudica. Alexander assures Boudica is safe and asleep thanks to El-Melloi II’s restraining spell. He introduces himself and claims he only wants to talk. However, as Alexander speaks with the group, United Empire soldiers launch a pincer attack on them. After the enemy is defeated, Alexander continues to insist he merely wants to talk with Nero as their armies kill each other. He asks her why she is fighting the United Empire instead of showing her allegiance to it. He continues that if she chose to be one of the "emperors", she could have avoided many unnecessary conflicts. However, Nero responds with her resolve to continue fighting the United Empire, asking for Ritsuka and Mash’s aid to fight Alexander and El-Melloi. Before disappearing, he warns Nero that her pride can be dangerous.[15]
Da Vinci and The Seven Counterfeit Heroic Spirits
A counterfeit of Alexander is created by Jeanne Alter. He's given the role of "a talented little brother who adores the big sister living him!"
Ritsuka's party encounters him in a counterfeiter's workshop in town. He confirms their observations that he is a counterfeit Servant. But he refuses to give EMIYA more information, believing he’ll only be killed after it’s obtained. Well aware of the condition of his body, he explains he is required to be pure and innocent to bring “her“ peace. He refuses to reveal who “she“ is, and explains his role. Expressing the same confusion as the rest at his back story, considering it to be a very girly wish, he fights the group. He is defeated and disappears, revealing there are more counterfeit workshops.
Final Singularity: Solomon
Alexander is amongst the "Septem" Singularity Servant to aid Chaldea against Demon Gods Pillar.[16]
Summer Event: Servant Summer Festival!
During a cookout, Alexander and Yan Qing notice that Ushiwakamaru is upset about something and offer to help. After hearing Medb’s contest is rigged in her favor, Alexander decides they must turn the contest into one where victory is indisputable, like sports or a martial arts match. Ushiwakamaru doubts Medb would agree to change the rules, knowing that she only cares about winning. She knows it’s pointless for Yan Qing to disguise himself as Medb because unless Medb herself admits defeat, her accomplices would twist the situation to her advantage. Alexander calls on El-Melloi II to devise a strategy. El-Melloi II complains it’s too hot out for him to think, so the best plan he can offer is a simple one. Alexander says it’s fine as a more complicated plan means more variables that need to be accounted for. El-Melloi II agrees and devises a plan to use Medb’s popularity against her, for which Yan Qing will be key.
Interlude
In his interlude, The Beginning of a Trampling Conquest, Alexander requests to meet Achilles. Romani Archaman tells him though that they were unable to summon Achilles, but Alexander decides to search for him. He suggests searching Okeanos for him since the Argo was there. Mash then recalls how Alexander during Rome was able to trigger a chained summoning of Darius III. Alexander, Ritsuka, and Mash then rayshift to Okeanos. Alexander is shocked at the sight of the sea when the group are ambushed by pirates. After the pirates retreat, Achilles confronts the group. Alexander challenges him to a fight, but he rejects it since he is mentoring the pirates now. Achilles then rallies the pirates to fight the group again. After defeating the pirates, Alexander praises Achilles’ talents as a general. He finds a fight between two armies led by great commanders is more invigorating that a one-on-one battle. He then falls asleep from exhaustion.
Abilities

Alexander wields a short sword with a small blade on the pommel, rather than the Spatha of his Adult Aspect, which he can imbue with lightning. Unable to access the Gordius Wheel, he uses Bucephalus as his mount instead.
Class Skills
- Riding (A+ Rank): The Skill needed to pilot mounts and vehicles. At this rank, Alexander can freely control all beasts and vehicles except for dragons.
- Magic Resistance (D Rank): A Skill which grants protection against magic. At this rank, it cancels Single-Action spells.
- Divinity (E Rank): Aptitude as a Divine Spirit. Although Alexander is said to be the son of the supreme god Zeus, he doesn't possess such a high Divinity as a young boy because he does not recognize himself as such yet.
Personal Skills
- Rosy-cheeked Youth (B Rank): The Skill that denotes one's disposition as a pretty boy who attracts people. It works as a fascination magecraft-like effect regardless of gender, but it will be decreased in effectiveness if the target has the will to resist. The skill can be nullified by anti-magic abilities.[1][2] Upgrades to Rosy-cheeked Youth (Lightning) (A Rank) in Fate/Grand Order.
- Charisma (C Rank): The ability to charm as well as the natural talent to command or unify an army or country. The extremely high Charisma that he displays later in life had not been achieved yet when he was still a young boy, but a portion of his budding Charisma is apparent in the Rosy-cheeked Youth Skill.
- Omen of the Hegemon-King (A Rank): A Skill which represents the portion of Alexander's spirit he will eventually have as Iskandar. By stimulating his spirit, he obtains a plus modifier for every kind of check.[1]
Noble Phantasm
- Bucephalus: Alexander's beloved horse who he rides into battle. Upon release of the True Name, Bucephalus violently charges toward the enemy formation, trampling all underfoot while scattering the lightning of the father Zeus. Bucephalus causes a smaller scale of destruction is compared to Via Expugnatio but boasts greater mobility.[1][2]
- Zeus Funder: When used, the lightning of Zeus strengthens Alexander's body, increasing his Divinity Skill and lowering Rosy-cheeked Youth both by one rank. Should Alexander use it too often, he will eventually grow into his adult self.[1][2]
Development
Creation and Conception
Alexander was designed by BUNBUN in Fate/Grand Order.[1][2] His scenario writer is Hikaru Sakurai in Fate/Grand Order.[1]
Comments from Illustrator
"I had to look twice the first moment I got the designation. I was worried about how much of Iskandar’s looks I left (although it’s the opposite), but I already went serious and drew him. I wanted to make Bucephalus huge in contrast to a young boy of delicate looks, but since the main point, Alexander, would get smaller in the screen, she’s still growing… that’s the little excuse in my brain for making her smaller." [] Fate/EXTELLA material - Encyclopedia: Iskandar [Servant], p.097-098 [T] Iskandar [Servant]
A Rider-class Servant in Altera's army.
He was born in the 4th century BC to the royal family of Macedonia, a kingdom in Greece.
Thanks to the influence of his mother, Olympias, he was fascinated by the exploits of heroes in mythology. He believed that he was the son of Zeus (who was also regarded as an Egyptian god by the name of Amun).
He inherited the throne at the young age of twenty, and began his great conquest by uniting the Grecian states. He raised an army and led them in a campaign to the East, not only conquering the great kingdom of Persia, but also many of the kingdoms under its control, beginning with Egypt.
The name Iskandar was given to him by the Arabs and the Persians. His campaign to the East went as far as India. There, his troops and generals complained of fatigue, and so he turned back to Babylon, where he suddenly passed away.
He created the greatest empire in the history of mankind as a conqueror, but his dying words, "Leave everything to the strongest." ended up splitting it apart instead.
Today, the Heroic Spirit Iskandar is a Top Servant, known among his peers as the "King of Conquerors."
When the Moon Cell senses that Altera has been released, it summons him to do battle with her. However, being unaccustomed to fighting on SE.RA.PH., with all its subtle differences to the Earth he lived and died on, he approaches the fight as a kind of warm-up.
Because of that, he loses. Altera then declares that his life belongs to her, and forces him to join her army. (This sort of thing is bound to happen when you don't play with your full attention on the game...)
Technically, this also makes him a Servant of Altera's Master, but Altera treats them both as if they were the same rank.
Altera understands that her victory over Iskandar was a matter of circumstance, and that they are evenly matched in terms of strength. While, subsequent to their fight, she does wield power over him, she does not consider him to be beneath her — nor does she look down on Jeanne, whom she recruits in a similar fashion.
Iskandar understands that as well; but accepts his defeat with dignity. From then on, he pledges to assist Altera in achieving her goals.
Make no mistake, however: He is loyal only to Altera, and not the Umbra' Star.イスカンダル【サーヴァント】
