"Percy perfect!"
― Percy's catchphrase

Percival,[1] or Percy for short, is a little green saddle tank engine who lives and works on the Island of Sodor and is the North Western Railway's number 6 engine. His favourite job is pulling the Mail Train and he is Thomas' best friend.

Biography

Percy is a tank engine that lives on Sodor with Thomas and his friends. His best friends are Thomas, Diesel, Nia and Kana; the five share a roundhouse together called Tidmouth Sheds.

Personality

Percy is Thomas' best friend and quite a jokester. He has a lot of hidden courage in him, most of which he is not aware of. Percy also likes to ring his lucky bell to bring good luck to himself, or his friends in a bad situation.

Technical Details

Basis

Percy is an 0-4-0 saddle tank engine of a freelance design. Unlike real saddle tank engines, Percy's tank wraps around his whole boiler, rather than just the top half, an error carried over from C. Reginald Dalby's illustrations in early books of The Railway Series.

In The Railway Series and Thomas & Friends, Percy is said to be a 0-4-0 saddle tank engine based on engines from the Avonside Engine Company.

Livery

Percy is painted green with red lining on his saddle tank and yellow lining around his front windows. His number (6) is painted on the sides of his cab in yellow with a red outline. His running board, bufferbeams and valences are all red.

In the second series episode, Thomas for a Day, Percy was accidentally splashed with blue paint.
