East Arena

Talk Page

The East Arena is a location in ICO.

Walkthrough

First visit

This building is an arena, and once inside, the door is closed and you cannot get out. Take the ladder with Yorda to the upper platform. When Yorda climbs the ladder, shadows will appear, so fight them off first. After everything is settled down, sit on the bench to save your game. There are two entrances to the next room, one on the left and one on the right, but the door to the left is still closed, so you can only go to the right. After entering the right room with Yorda, go down the ladder and climb up the column.

Second visit

When you return to the arena and pick up the fallen sword, a fence will appear and you will be locked in, but here you can escape by climbing the platforms on either side and cutting the ropes on the gears. The sword obtained here has a much higher attack power than the wooden stick, and is a very reassuring weapon in the fight against the shadows. It will also be needed to cut ropes in the future. After escaping from the fence, cut the rope at the top of the stairs on the left to open the door. After that, go with Yorda to the room on the left through the opened entrance.

Third visit

Go through the bridge you have descended from and proceed to the upper floor of the arena. Cross the magical platforms that appear one after another, break the seal of the stone statues, and pull the lever at the far left to rotate the round table directly below you. This completes everything that needs to be done in this building. To light the fire, you must switch from the sword to the wooden stick, but remember to take the sword with you when you leave this building.

Trivia

  • According to a storyboard set in an unused version of this location (st4r) the floating platforms was originally just one that would slowly float across to the other side.
  • Originally, it was planned that a cutscene with the Queen would occur in this location. She would appear on the other side of the gap while the boy and Yorda float across, opening the idol gates herself. After a brief argument with Yorda, she would then release an energy blast that would knock the boy off the platform, causing him to lose one of his horns much earlier in the game.
