Mind Field

Mind Field (also known as The Stake and Flags) is a challenge that debuted in Survivor South Africa: Panama that has since reappeared as a recurring challenge in Australian Survivor.

Rules

In a Survivor version of musical chairs, the castaways will race to retrieve an item. However, each round, there will be one fewer item than castaways competing, so the person without an item will be eliminated. The last person left standing wins.

In Survivor South Africa: Panama, each tribe put up three members to represent them in the challenge. On the go, the six representatives will sprint towards a stake; the person left without a stake is eliminated. This continues until only one person is left standing. Aguila put up Brigitte Willers, Mzi Tyhokolo, and Sanele Gumede, while Rana put up Gareth Tjasink, Jacinda Louw, and Zayn Nabbi. In the final round, Sanele defeated Gareth to win reward—a mosquito net and a choice between flint and a utility knife—for Aguila. Sanele chose the flint.

The challenge was integrated as a part of the elimination obstacle course at the final eight of Santa Carolina. The eight contestants had to race out to dig for one of six hessian sacks, with the two left behind eliminated from the challenge. The top six would then complete a sack race, with the first four across the race track collecting one of four bags of letter blocks. The final four will then make their way to a puzzle station, where the first person to stack the blocks to spell the phrase "I AM IMMUNE" wins immunity. Although Ashley Hayden figured out her phrase first, strong winds prevented her from keeping her tower stacked, allowing Izak Davel to take the win.
