Belcoot is the Tenan Star in Suikoden V.
Profile
Background
Belcoot is an expert in the Falcon-Style Swordsmanship from Kanakan. He was a young mediocre gladiator in Falena's ex-capital Stormfist, leading a life of suffering. It was during this time that he met Morgan, who later joined in the Toran Liberation War.
Belcoot escaped around SY 438. After that, he moved from place to place, forging his skills with his sword. Some time during this period, he trained and acquired experience as a pupil under the master fencer from Kanakan, Roundier Haia. Then with the hope of completely abolishing the system of slave fighting, he returned to Queendom of Falena to join the Sacred Games.
In the games he did well and progressed to the final match against Childerich. However, Marina, who fell for Gizel Godwin's, served him Dark Arcanum, and he was unable to show his true strength and thus eliminated, missing his chance at victory. However, even though she poisoned him, when in front of Marina, he maintained that he was to blame for his loss. This kindness made Marina warm up to him.
Later, he joined the Prince's forces and aided them against the Godwins. If he is amongst the Prince's party in the assault at Stormfist, he may offer to replace the Prince's place in dueling Childerich.
Belcoot is one of three known disciples of Master Haia to have appeared in the games, the other two being Valeria and Anita, though it's unclear whether he is an acquaintance of the two women. His fighting style also differs in that he uses a two-handed sword instead of rapiers like the two women.
Hazuki is a swordswoman who considers herself a rival of Belcoot and wishes to avenge a loss in a duel to him.

Story
Game
Before the Sun Rune War, he competed in the Sacred Games and won almost every battle. Unfortunately, the Godwins needed to win to start their political plot against the royal family of Falena and they kidnapped Marina to distract Belcoot. After saving Marina with the help of Sialeeds Falenas and Freyjadour Falenas, Belcoot managed to reach the finals. Before Belcoot fought Childerich, Marina made a big breakfast to celebrate. During the battle with Childerich though, Belcoot could barely stand and felt like he had not slept for days. He lost the battle and was sent to infirmary. Dr. Murad couldn't detect anything on Belcoot's body, but Lyon was able to tell that Belcoot was drugged by Dark Arcanum while Georg Prime wondered who the person who drugged Belcoot could be. He suspected that it could be Marina but Belcoot denied that. When Freyjadour revisited Belcoot before they left Stormfist, Belcoot warned them about the Godwin's.
Later Freyjadour met Belcoot and Marina in Yashuna Village. After talking to them, they joined Freyjadour's Loyalist Army. They stayed at the Loyalist Army's headquarter, the Ceras Lake Castle, and aided Freyjadour in his battle against the Godwin family. After the war he took up a position as a fencing instructor for training new recruits at the former arena in Stormfist. It is said that on his days off he helped Marina at her inn.
Role in the Game
After establishing your HQ, go to Yashuna Village and talk to Belcoot outside of the inn. After talking to Marina they'll both join you.
Belcoot is one of the better front-line fighters in the game, utilizing a strong attack, effective weapon defense, and a good combination attack with Dinn.

Belcoot can run a four-star infantry unit on land and a four-star combat ship at sea. He comes with one use of the Charge command, and a five point stat boost as a second in command.
Note: Belcoot can be killed if his unit is defeated in combat.
- Belcoot used to be a gladiator, but he escaped ten years ago. After training himself abroad, he came back to participate in the Sacred Games. He made it all the way to the finalmatch... But you know how that went.
- Believe it or not, as good as he is now, he was a pretty lousy gladiator back in the day. That's why no one knew who he was when he appeared in the Sacred Games.
- It seems he gets along well with Dinn because they both use those giant swords. I've seen `em practise together, and they're not half-bad.
- Shinro
He said he had questions about Kanakan. I hear he wants to do business with other lands. It must be related to that.
- Shoon
When I talk to him, it brings back memories of my days in the ring.
- Childerich
Trivia
- Belcoot is the first known male fighter to appear in the series to bear the Falcon Rune. He is also the only student of Roundlier Haia that doesn't use a fencing blade.
- An amusing in-joke in the game is that despite training in Kanakan, which is well known in the series for its superb wine, Belcoot is shown in the game to be a lightweight when it comes to alcohol. This is made even more amusing by the fact that Valeria, Anita, and Kika are shown in the series to be quite heavy drinkers. This marks another contrast between him and previous Falcon Rune users in the series.
- His swords are called after Russian names for flowers. Each of the three words were also the names of Soviet-era artillery pieces.
- The Marugoto! Genso Suikoden Book comments that he is the type to be liked by women, however he doesn’t have a clue when it comes to love.
- Due to the lack of a difference between L and R in Japanese, it's possible his name was meant to be pronounced as "Berkut", which is Russian for "golden eagle". As his weapons have Russian names, he incorporates both Asian and Western elements in his design and he bears the Falcon Rune, it's very likely that this is the origin of his name.
