Surprise Crocodile

The Surprise Crocodile^[1] is an enemy that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a non-anthropomorphic breed of crocodile living in the Silent Forest mud pits.

Appearance

The Surprise Crocodiles are non-anthropomorphic crocodile creatures with green skin, a white jaw, sharp teeth and brown eyes with yellow sclera. Curiously, their bodies have square shapes. It is unclear how their entire bodies look like.

Overview

Surprise Crocodiles appear as enemies/obstacles in the Wii U version and PC version of Sonic Lost World, where they are found in Silent Forest Zone. When encountered, they appear either alone or in groups. In gameplay, they reside in mud lakes below Grind Rails where they will try to bite Sonic as he is grinding across their lakes. After biting, they pull back into the mud to repeat their attack.

The player cannot defeat these enemies with any means, so the only option is to avoid them. To dodge the Surprise Crocodiles while grinding across their mud lakes, the player has to jump between parallel Grind Rails.

Trivia

• Surprise Crocodiles appear to be loosely based on the popular young children toy Crocodile Dentist which was first manufactured by Milton Bradley in 1990.
