As their name suggests, the Mole Mecha is based on a mole. These Badniks have a cyan, pill-shaped body, no legs, enlarged blue hands with long gray claws, and a small jetpack on their backs which they use to jump up out of the background.
Overview
In Sonic Superstars, the Mole Mechas appear exclusively in Sand Sanctuary Zone. In gameplay, the Mole Mechas can be found digging from left to right in pits of quicksand until the player goes near them, at which point the Mole Mecha will spring from the background. Once they land in the foreground, the Mole Mechas will immediately begin digging into the sand before continually repeating their attack pattern. Interestingly enough, there are actually two ways in order for the player to destroy a Mole Mecha. The first way of destroying them is for the player to use any form of attack on the Mole Mecha before it can dig back into the quicksand. The second way of destroying a Mole Mecha is by Spin Jumping into them while they are in midair, resulting in the Badnik being sent flying back into the background before getting destroyed upon impact on the ground. Regardless on which way the player destroys a Mole Mecha, they will still release their Animal and award the player 100 points upon destruction.
In addition to appearing throughout Sand Sanctuary Zone, the Mole Mechas also appear during the Sand Sanctuary Zone boss, where Dr. Eggman will summon them during the fight alongside Skorps. Once the Mole Mechas arrive in the foreground, they will immediately begin breaking one of the stone tiles on the ground before burrowing back into the quicksand (though the Mole Mecha can be stopped by the player if they destroy them before they get the chance to break a stone tile). In addition, the Mole Mechas can also be sent flying back to Dr. Eggman if the player Spin Jumps into them while the Badnik is in midair. Doing this will result in both the boss taking damage and the Mole Mecha being destroyed as well.
Powers and abilities
The Mole Mechas can burrow into the ground quickly thanks to their enlarged hands and claws. They are also capable of jumping great heights out of the sand with the use of their back-mounted jetpacks. In addition, the Mole Mechas are surprisingly strong as well, as they are capable of destroying stone tiles with little to no effort.
