Mobile spring

The mobile spring[1] is a gimmick that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a variant of the Spring and wide spring that is designed like a moving platform.

Description

Akin to wide spring, the mobile spring is an oblong yellow plate/platform with three blue circles on top of it, each containing a yellow five-pointed star. Also, on the bottom of the mobile spring is a smaller oblong plate with what appears to be hover engines.

Overview

In gameplay in the Wii version of Sonic Colors, and the remaster Sonic Colors: Ultimate, the mobile springs are somewhat rare. After touching a mobile spring, it will start moving around on its own, following a set path. The mobile springs can move up, down, left and right, and will follow the playable character's horizontal movements if they move ahead on the mobile spring's path. This means for example that the mobile spring cannot follow the player horizontally to the left if it is moving to the right on its own. However, it will move faster to the right if the player moves ahead of a right-moving mobile spring, although it will not follow the player's rightward movements further when it has to change direction.

Like traditional yellow Springs, the mobile springs do not bounce as high as the red ones. However, it is possible to get launched higher by stomping on the mobile spring multiple times. Using Super Sonic on mobile springs is not advisable, however, as it cannot keep up with his speed.
