ME:I (ミーアイ, pronounced Me-I) is an 11-member Japanese girl group formed through the female survival show, PRODUCE 101 JAPAN THE GIRLS. The group made their debut on April 17, 2024 under LAPONE Entertainment.
History
2023: PRODUCE 101 JAPAN THE GIRLS & Group formation

ME:I was formed through the third season of the Japanese spin-off of the South Korean reality competition show Produce 101, titled Produce 101 Japan, which aired from October 5 to December 16, 2023. Contestants had to go through several rounds of evaluations before the top eleven were chosen by viewers through online voting and announced via live broadcast on TBS. The winners then signed with LAPONE Entertainment, a joint company between Yoshimoto Kogyo and CJ E&M.
The group's name, ME:I, was chosen by Lapone Entertainment among all the suggestions given by the viewers through Produce 101 Japan's official website. The name was announced on December 16, 2023, during the final live broadcast of the show.
The official meaning of the name is "Future Idol" (未来のアイドル; Mirai no Idol).
2024: Debut & First Fanmeeting
ME:I confirmed through their first Instagram Live held on December 29, 2023, that their first fanmeeting "2024 ME:I LAUNCHING SHOW "ME:ICONIC"" will be from March 27-28 in Tokyo Garden Theatre, and March 30-31 in Ookini Arena Maishima. The group also revealed the release date of their debut single on April 17, 2024. [1][2]
On January 14, it was revealed through a video posted on ME:I's official YouTube channel[3] that the name of their official fanclub has been chosen and was revealed to be "YOU:ME".
On February 24, the debut concept trailer for ME:I's debut was released. That same month, ME:I OFFICIAL STORE was opened in conjunction of the start of MIRAI's pre-orders.
