Big Paint Star

Paper Mario

Big Paint Stars are items in Paper Mario: Color Splash.

Description

These are larger variations of Mini Paint Stars that reside in the Prisma Fountain. They are scattered all over Prism Island, and Mario must find them all to unlock the rainbow road leading to the final boss, Black Bowser. As Mario obtains each Big Paint Star, an area previously unexplorable will be unlocked to further progress the game. Once recovered, they will each offer infinite paint to their appropriate color when smacked with Mario's hammer. If they are all found, they will mix in the Prisma Fountain, giving max life and max paint to Mario when he swims inside.

Trivia

  • Big Paint Stars are a callback to Shine Sprites from Super Mario Sunshine.
  • There is no indigo Big Paint Star. This is likely because only primary and secondary colors of paint are used.
  • Each paint star are actually the same color as the koopalings' wand color, depending on which koopaling is guarding which star. For instance, the yellow big paint star is Guarded by Iggy, who has a yellow wand, and Lemmy guards the green paint star, the same green as his wand.
  • The order of Big Paint Stars that are needed to be collected is revealed in the opening sequence with the Emergency Recovery Unit. After Mario completes the instructions, the mechanisms block the fountain opening to each Big Paint Star holding area, in order. Starting with Red, Yellow and Blue, and finishing with Purple, Orange and Green. This then reveals Huey, giving symbolism as the solution for recovering the Big Paint Stars.
