Just in time, the Lion Guard saved him, and the baby baboon formed a strong attachment to Fuli. Kion tasked Fuli with returning the baby baboon to his parents, and though she struggled to get along with him at first, she eventually became very protective of him. Upon returning the baby baboon to his family, Fuli started to depart, but came back when the vultures returned to attack her charge. After getting separated from his family, the baby baboon was chased by Mzingo and his parliament. Just in time, the Lion Guard arrived and chased off the vultures, allowing the baby baboon time to rest. However, a wave of floodwaters swept him away, and Kion ordered Fuli to rescue him. She did so, and the baby baboon clung to her gratefully.
After the rescue, Fuli inquired about the baby baboon's fate, and Kion told her to return him to the baboons in Nyani Grove. At first, Fuli was hesitant to undergo the task, but Kion commented that she was best fit for the job due to the baby baboon's attachment to her. Finally, Fuli relented and departed for Nyani Grove. Along the way, the baby baboon pulled at her ears and tail, and Fuli snapped at him to treat her more gently.

Once the two arrived in Nyani Grove, Fuli presented the baby baboon to the troop's leader, who informed her that the infant belonged to the baboons of Mapango Cliffs. He then pointed her in the right direction, and Fuli lamented having to travel so far. Despite this, she set off with the baby baboon for his true home.
While traveling, the baby baboon annoyed Fuli with his loud chattering and found a way to leap from her back into a tree. When she attempted to bring him back, he simply pelted her with fruit, which caused Fuli to vent her frustrations. Afterward, the two set off once more for Mapango Cliffs.

Fuli had nearly reached Mapango Cliffs when she spotted Mzingo and his parliament circling overhead. While attempting to sneak around the vultures, Fuli and the baby baboon attracted the parliament's attention, and Fuli formulated a plan to throw them off the trail. With the baby baboon clinging to her underbelly, she approached the vultures through a field of tall grass and told them that she was simply out hunting. She then threatened to eat Mzingo, and the parliament took off in a hurry.
With the vultures gone, Fuli reached Mapango Cliffs, where the baby baboon jumped excitedly from her back and began to climb the steep ridges. When he at last reached the top, he was embraced by his mother, who was relieved to find him safe and sound. Satisfied with her work, Fuli started to depart, but just then, Mzingo and his parliament moved in for the attack.

Fuli scrambled up the side of the cliffs to reach the baboons, who began to throw fruit at the vultures to buy her time. Mzingo ordered his lackeys to get the baby baboon while he handled Fuli, but before he could hurt her, the baby baboon threw a fruit at him, allowing Fuli to jump down the cliffs and pin him to the ground. She ordered Mzingo to call off his parliament, and he did so, hurriedly racing away and leaving the baboons safe from harm. With the vultures gone, the baboons began to chant Fuli's name, and the mother baboon thanked Fuli for saving her son, who clambered onto Fuli's back and repeated her favorite catchphrase: "Huwezi!"[1]
Fuli's trip to the Tree of Life
Before Fuli left on her journey to the Tree of Life, an older baby baboon gave her a farewell hug, to her delight.[2] When Fuli returned to the Pride Lands with her friend, Azaad, the baby baboon and his troop greeted them enthusiastically.[3]

As an infant, the baby baboon was small but agile. He had gray fur, with a pale underbelly and a short brownish-gray mane. Like most baboons, his ears, face, and paws were pink, and he had a long winding tail. His eyes were blue.[1] The baby baboon retains his coloring as an older youth, but is much taller and bigger, and has a longer mane.[2]
