Salmon are a species of wildlife in Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West.
Salmon seen in the Horizon series appear to be Chinook salmon, a widespread species native to the northern Pacific Ocean and the rivers in western North America, Japan and Russia. They have also been introduced to Lake Michigan and rivers in South America and New Zealand.
History
In the Old World
Salmon zygotes were among the animals that were successfully collected before the Faro Plague eradicated the species and stored within ARTEMIS for later use in Project Zero Dawn.
In the New World
Despite not being among the animals listed by Charles Ronson as a pioneer organism,[1] salmon were released into the wilds, becoming common in the rivers and lakes of the entire known world. Whether they are indeed pioneer organisms and were released under GAIA's orders or were released by ARTEMIS during its independence is unknown.
While the exact fish used to make Cured Coldwater Fish is unclear, the recipe written in The Official Horizon Cookbook: Tastes of the Seven Tribes notes that it is made using salmon.
Behavior
Salmon in Horizon Zero Dawn are largely passive to Aloy, while in Horizon Forbidden West, they tend to swim away from her.
