Goats are a species of wildlife in Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds and The Official Horizon Cookbook: Tastes of the Seven Tribes.
Goats seen in the Horizon series appear to be mountain goats, a species found in the northwestern USA and western Canada.
History
In the Old World
Goat zygotes were among the animals that were successfully collected before the Faro Plague eradicated the species and stored within ARTEMIS for later use in Project Zero Dawn.
In the New World
Despite not being among the animals listed by Charles Ronson as a pioneer organism,[1] goats were released into the wilds, becoming common in the forests of the Cut. Whether they are indeed pioneer organisms and were released under GAIA's orders or were released by ARTEMIS during its independence is unknown.
The Official Horizon Cookbook: Tastes of the Seven Tribes
As Milduf and Pentalla were making their way into the Cut, they took shelter in a cave during a blizzard. Pentalla confided her dislike of caves and frost to Milduf, telling him how they'll make a meal out of a mountain goat once the storm passes. Later on, as Pentalla went to kill a goat, they were interrupted by a Frostclaw.
Behavior
Goats are docile and quick to flee upon detecting Aloy, never turning aggressive. Their white coats can make them difficult to spot in the snowy climate, but they are easily spotted using the Focus.
Uses
Goats are the only source of Goat Bones and Goat Skin.
