Boar

Boars are a species of wildlife in Horizon Zero Dawn. A different boar, known as the wild boar, appears in Horizon Forbidden West.

Standard boars seen in the Horizon series appear to be Indian boars, a widespread species found across South Asia and neighbouring countries.

History

In the Old World

Boar zygotes were among the animals that were successfully collected before the Faro Plague eradicated the species and stored within ARTEMIS for later use in Project Zero Dawn.

In the New World

Despite not being among the animals listed by Charles Ronson as a pioneer organism,[1] boars were released into the wilds, becoming common across the Sacred Lands, the Sundom, the Forbidden West and the Burning Shores. Whether they are indeed pioneer organisms and were released under GAIA's orders or were released by ARTEMIS during its independence is unknown.

Behavior

Boars are docile and quick to flee upon detecting Aloy, never turning aggressive. They usually take several Hunter Arrows to kill, or a single Precision Arrow, Fire Arrow, or heavy melee strike.

Uses

Loot

Boars are the only source of Boar Skin and Boar Bones in Horizon Zero Dawn.

Trivia

  • Boars are not native to North America, with the wild boar that can be found there in the present day having been introduced to the continent by humans. However, boars in Horizon Zero Dawn don't appear to be wild boars, instead appearing to be Indian boars, especially identifiable by their crest, which can be found across South Asia and neighbouring countries.
