Here are the Commander’s orders for the operation. “The plan will be executed today… the day that the Reeves Company is to hand Eren and Historia over to the Military Police’s First Squad. The First Squad is entrusting the Reeves Company with everything from Eren and Historia’s transportation route to the selection of the holding spot. We must use this to our advantage. We will hand Eren and Historia over to the First Squad as planned. Then, we will use the Reeves Company to follow them to wherever they’re heading. Or perhaps I should say whoever… Rod Reiss. Historia’s biological father. The man who truly rules the world inside the Walls.
~ Nifa informing Levi and his Squad of Erwin’s plan.

Story

Clash of the Titans arc

Nifa is among the soldiers present when Hange Zoë interrogates Pastor Nick for information on the Wall Titans, helping to cover up the revealed Titan before it's exposed to sunlight and noticed by civilians. Later, she is part of Hange's unit for their mission to locate a breach in Wall Rose, due to another Titan invasion happening. Later at Ermich District, she is present at Hange's brief meeting with the troops, revealing suspicious info about Reiner Braun and Bertholdt Hoover, after finding out their spotty records were similar to Annie Leonhart's, resulting in speculation and several possible clues on the three being accomplices. Nifa and the rest of the attending troops were commanded by Hange to avoid acting suspicious around Bertholdt and Reiner, should they come across the two in the south. At dawn, Nifa participates in the battle at Utgard Castle, saving the trapped Scout Regiment recruits who were held up in the old fort, after the battle she would tend to the wounded Ymir.

When the Armored and Colossal Titans revealed themselves, Nifa was quick to engage with the Colossal, closing in on his nape with the rest of her squad before being blasted back with steam. She would then stay back to tend to soldiers wounded by the steam, while also protecting Connie Springer and Historia Reiss, who were still unarmed following the rescue at Utgard. When Connie questioned whether Reiner and Bertholdt were safe, Nifa was both shocked and concerned, unaware that they didn't know that their friends were the Titans they were currently fighting. During Eren's fight with Reiner, Nifa would encourage him to keep fighting, however she would later be knocked out by the Colossal Titan as he fell from the wall.

Legacy

Nifa would be posthumously remembered by Erwin during the Battle of Shiganshina District, as he lamented he would reminisce about all his fallen comrades, wanting to know whether their deaths had any meaning. Four years later, Nifa would also be remembered by Hange Zoë as they convinced Jean and Mikasa to help oppose the Rumbling, noting that their fallen comrades would be opposed to it as well.

After Hange Zoë sacrificed their life delaying the Wall Titans to ensure their allies can stop the Rumbling, Nifa is among the deceased soldiers whom they are greeted by.

Trivia

  • According to the author Hajime Isayama, Nifa is the most stylish member of the Survey Corps.
  • Her death in the anime is significantly toned down compared to the manga, as the manga shows most of her face was blown off by Kenny's Anti-Personnel gear.
  • Her appearance bears a striking resemblance to Armin Arlert. This similarity is often alluded to in games based off the series.
    • In the game Attack on Titan 2's Final Battle DLC, they have a non-canon interaction where Mikasa and Eren mistake her for Armin, the four of them later discuss this, with Nifa and Armin ultimately bonding over their similarities.
    • This is also brought up in the now delisted mobile game Attack on Titan Tactics, where Hange points out the resemblance between the two, and the two of them get acquainted with one another.
