Katarn was later informed of his Force sensitivity, and taught himself to become a Jedi while in search of the Valley of the Jedi. During this journey, he confronted the dark side within both himself and in the form of the Dark Jedi Jerec and his minions. Defeating them, Katarn cuts himself off from the Force worried he would fall for the Dark Side's temptations. Katarn went on to become a Jedi Master, teaching at the Jedi Praxeum. He participated in the offensives against the Yuuzhan Vong and became a part of the Jedi High Council in the New Jedi Order.
Powers & Abilities
Kyle Katarn was an extremely powerful combatant, to the point many players call him the, "Chuck Norris," of Star Wars. He is considered to be the most powerful Jedi Battlemaster who ever lived, and one of the strongest Jedi period. In his time, the only beings who could rival him were Jaina Solo, Jacen Solo and Kyp Durron, with Grandmaster Luke being his only known superior.
Due to his vast experience in a wide range of fields, he is highly proficient in several weapons. He was lethal with a blaster, being a skilled marksman and even continuing to use a blaster even as a Jedi. As a lightsaber duelist, Kyle Katarn was a prodigy, becoming a powerful fighter with minimal training. His skill with the lightsaber was so impressive that Luke named him the Jedi Battlemaster, the head lightsaber instructor of the Jedi Order. His title of Battlemaster also means that Kyle Katarn is a master of all seven forms of lightsaber combat. He primarily preferred strong style, similar to the classical Form IV Ataru and Form V Djem So, known for its acrobatics and sweeping power attacks. He has defeated thousands of opponents over the years, including stormtroopers, Dark Jedi and Yuuzhan Vong. Most notably he defeated Inquisitor Jerec and his followers, slew the Dark Jedi Desann, and held his own against and survived a duel against Darth Caedus.
In addition to his fantastic skill with a lightsaber, Katarn also held immense power in the Force. One of his most unique traits was his use of not only typical Force abilities, but dark side ones as well, most notably Force lightning. He saw the abilities as neutral, saying it is not the powers but how the person uses them that makes them bad.
