The Olt Base (オルト基地 Oruto Kichi?) was a Earth Federation Ground Force (EFGF)'s military base in Eastern Europe during the One Year War. It was featured in ONA Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance.[1]
Overview
Located near the eponymous river in central Romania,[2] the Olt was a regional military base set up by the EFGF during the One Year War. It served as a command and deployment facility for its newly-established mobile suit force after the RGM-79 GM began mass production.[3] The Olt was a sizable base where the MS team member Carl, Shaun, Murphy and the Gundam Pilot were based[1] and deployed for search-and-destroy missions against the local Zeon strongholds in anticipation of Federation's major campaign in Odessa.
Layout and Facilities
The Olt Base covered a large area to house at least four units of GM, the RX-78(G)E Gundam EX, and an unknown number of M61A5 MBTs, with accompanied workshops for mobile weapons repair and living quarters for staff accommodation.[1] It also had units of Armored Personals Carriers and Fuel Trucks for troop transport and fuel resupply, respectively. The size of Olt base could be indicated by the presence of the gigantic MS Trailer to ensure the strategic mobility of GMs in Eastern European fronts. The base was fortified with high walls surrounding the entire facility. It was cut off by a ravine and was only accessible via a tied-arch bridge connected to the guarded main entrance.[1]
History
One Year War
On the order of Zeon Army's Maj. Gen. Yuri Kellerne, Cpt. Iria Solari was tasked to hijack Federal Force's GMs stationed at the Olt Base for technical examination hoping to turn the tide of war in Zeon's favor.[3] Together with Alfee Zydos, Ander Heaton and Hailey Arhun, Solari's quartet infiltrated EFGF's the Olt Base in early November, U.C. 0079. The EFGF-suited infiltrators spit into two groups with Zydos and Heaton targeted a trailered GM while Solari and Arhun headed towards an inactive GM struck at the ravine and main entrance bridge. Heaton blew his cover when he attempted to drive the GM Trailer away which alerted the stationed Federal soldiers and fired at the Trailer's cabin. The whole base was alerted when Zydos activated the trailered GM and began destroying the base's other parked GMs and M61A5 tanks. The GM piloting trio were unable to deploy as the result but the Gundam Pilot got onto the Gundam EX and snipped at Zydos' GM from behind the hangar. Seeing her comrade was in danger, Solari rushed her stolen GM to Zydos' rescue and a fierce beam saber duel with Gundam EX ensured. The rest of the infiltrators escaped but Solari's GM was eventually overpowered and disabled by Gundam EX. The alarmed Kneeland LeSean rushed to the scene with his Zaku II who saved Solari at the cost of his own live and the Zaku destroyed. The Federal Force foiled Zeon's attempt at the cost of all four GMs and several M61 tanks but with minimal loss of life and infrastructural damage, and the Gundam Pilot would be deployed from the olt Base soon afterwards to stop the escaping Zeon soldiers from boarding the HLVs at the Odessa space port.[4]
