Arthur Trine

Arthur Trine (アーサー・トライン) is a character introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny and was second-in-command of the ZAFT's battleship LHM-BB01 Minerva. He later reappeared in the animated film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom.

Personality & Character

The executive officer of the Minerva, who serves as Talia's aide. Arthur lacks his captain's experience and tactical ability, and he is often bewildered by her seemingly reckless decisions. Nonetheless, he is friendly and reliable, and has a good rapport with Shinn and the other pilots. However, he tends to make a mountain out of a molehill.

As a first officer, Arthur is skilled in giving combat orders and is frequently in charge of briefing pilots. Also, as a coordinator, he naturally has improved skills which may help him while in combat.

History

Second Alliance-PLANT War

In C.E. 73, Arthur was the assigned as the executive officer of the battleship Minerva and was a trusted friend and colleague of Captain Talia Gladys.^[1][2] Arthur fought in the Minerva Corps during the Second Alliance-PLANT War, up until the Battle of Messiah.^[3][4]

At the climax of the Battle of Messiah, Gladys told him to look after everyone when the Minerva was damaged and crashed on the Moon. Following the end of the Second Alliance-PLANT War, Arthur was among the members of ZAFT escorting the new PLANT Chairwoman Lacus Clyne, standing next to Yzak Joule, Dearka Elsman and Shiho Hahnenfuss.^[4]

After the war, Arthur handed the remaining personal belongings of Gladys to her son, William. During their time together, they reminisce of the late captain, as well as discussed her actions. The two eventually promised to drink together once William comes of legal age.^[5]

Foundation Conflict

After the end of the war, ZAFT had begun introducing a traditional rank system^[6], and Arthur was given the rank of Lieutenant Commander.^[7] In C.E. 75, Arthur was assigned to Compass and served as the executive officer of LHM-BB03S Millennium.^[8]

Notes & Trivia

• Throughout Gundam SEED Destiny, much of Arthur's role was to provide comic relief.
• Arthur's accent in the Ocean Productions' dub is depicted as an British English-accent, while the NYAV Post dub for the HD Remastered editions had him speaking in a natural American accent.
