At first glance, Thomas might seem like a very underwhelming unit. His class is extremely bad, being a 3 movement unit with no way to improve his mobility. He does however provide some valuable enough utility that makes him somewhat worth using based off of specific circumstances, even if he won't always be useful in every map.
In Chapters 9 and 10, he can use his massive defense to block the reinforcement points, taking little to no damage from the enemies there. While Norton can also technically do this, Thomas does this much better as he takes little to no damage from the enemies.
In Chapter 17, the player can obtain Quick Rain, a weapon that transforms his class into a Ballistae. This can be useful in Chapter 18 against some of the monster enemies, even with accuracy issues. He can also be used to clear up the Arena using the Gladiator skill, which is also convenient.
Thomas's main claim to fame however is in the lategame, where if you teach him Slayer, he can help take on Draco-Zombies in the lategame, or even outright 1HKO them through Slayers added 20% critical hit rate.

Notes
- Thomas frequently refers to his skill as a hunter. Based off this, his title of Hunter of Lot, build, clothing, and desire to fight on foot it is heavily implies Thomas is actually of the unplayable Hunter class and this is why his stats are unsuited for a Wood Shooter.
