Melgen

FE4 Chapter 7 - Passing the Desert Crop Melgen

Melgen (メルゲン, Melgen, Melgln in Thracia 776) is a fortress castle from Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. It is also the name of the valley between the mountains of Edda in Grannvale and the mountains on the Thracian Peninsula.

Once a part of Thracia, Melgen Castle fell under the control of the Munster District after the coalition of kingdoms broke away broke away from Thracia. It is worth noting that Melgen is not one of the Four Kingdoms of the Munster District, meaning that it relies upon these kingdoms for protection and governance. In Grann 777, it is held by Prince Ishtore, and his lover, Liza.

Geography

Melgen holds a defensive position between the Thracian Peninsula and the rest of Jugdral. While it is never explicitly said which kingdom Melgen belongs to, its geographic location and its importance in Seliph's liberation of Ulster imply that it is part of Ulster. At the border between Northern and Southern Thracia, the Miletos District, Edda of Grannvale, and the Aed Desert, Melgen becomes a key territory in the battle against the Grannvale Empire.

Story

After the Aed Massacre, control of the Munster District passed to Thracia. Soon after, the Grannvale Empire invaded, seizing control of the territories. Emperor Arvis renamed the area "the Northern Kingdom of Thracia" and proclaimed Duke Bloom of Friege king. He passes control of Melgen to his son, Ishtore. During Chapter 7 of Genealogy of the Holy War, Seliph and the Liberation Army take Melgen, slaying Ishtore and Liza in the process. Bramsel ambushes the army from Darna after the castle is taken. Once he and his forces are defeated, the Liberation Army moves onward to gain control of Leonster. From Leonster they head to Ulster, driving Bloom into retreat. After the New Holy War, Leif becomes king of unified Thracia, ruling over Melgen from Leonster Castle.
