Break is a combat mechanic introduced in Fire Emblem Engage.
Overview

Break is a unique status inflicted on the defending unit if the attacker initiating combat has a Weapon Triangle advantage over them. Additionally, Art Scroll units can break opponents who wield Bows, Tomes, or Daggers. Break can also be inflicted by the Fracture staff, or if an enemy hit by a Smash Weapon does not have a valid space to be pushed back to. When Break is inflicted, the defending unit drops their weapon, disabling their ability to counterattack foes until the following turn.
This unique status is not inflicted if the unit with the weapon advantage is the defending unit, if the unit with the weapon advantage misses their attacks, or if the attack deals no damage. Engage Attacks can break foes if applicable.
Armored Units are immune to Break, as are units positioned on a Fort. The enemy boss-exclusive skill Unbreakable also grants this same immunity.
