Thalassians[1][2] are a mermaid-like species from the planet Thalassia.
Appearance
Female Thalassians are tall, dark cyan-colored humanoid aliens with a sleek bodies. They have long pink fins on their arms, hips, cheeks, head, eyebrows, shoulders, and on their legs or tail. They have gills on their torso and their eyes are pink.
Engaged females accessorize with a Thalassian lip implant, a gold-colored crescent that rests just below their bottom lip.
It is unknown what the males look like.
Behavior
Female Thalassians routinely shed their scales, precisely once every 5.22 years. Upon shedding, they lose their tail, and reveal two legs beneath it. They become capable of surviving outside of deep water; and can even breathe in the air. However, this state only lasts for one day.
Powers and Abilities
Thalassians natively breathe underwater, and can survive the atmospheric pressure of depths beyond Human capability.
Thalassians can swim and maneuver underwater excellently with their tail. They are even able to use their tail offensively to smack things.
Thalassians possess a degree of enhanced strength, though less so than that of a Detrovite.
Thalassians may be able to freely switch between their tail or legs, on the day that they shed their scales.
Weaknesses
With exception of the days when they shed their scales, Thalassians constantly need to live in very deep water. After Sheelane's planet was destroyed, her ship, submerged a mile underwater in a cave, was the only place she could survive in the whole universe.[3][2]

Etymology
Like Thalassia, "Thalassian" is derived from the Greek primordial sea goddess, Thalassa, and its derived English word, "thalassic".
