WinWin

WinWin (Korean: 윈윈, Simplified Chinese: 昀昀), born Sicheng Dong (Chinese: 董思成), is a Chinese singer and dancer. He is the lead dancer, lead rapper, sub vocalist, and visual of the Chinese male idol group WayV. He is one of the members of the South Korea-based male idol group NCT and its sub-units NCT 127 and NCT U, though he has been on hiatus from NCT 127 since 2018. In 2021, he established a personal studio for his acting activities in China.

Early life

He was born and raised in Lucheng District, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province. Due to his studies, he has been living in Beijing since he was a child. In 2009, he was admitted to The Affiliated Secondary School of Beijing Dance Academy, with the first place in art dance.

He was selected by South Korean SM Entertainment scouts near the school when he was a freshman in high school. After rejecting them once, SM officials did not give up and persuaded him, coming by plane 9 round trips from Korea to China in order to cast him. iHe went to South Korea for a month of training, and later returned to China to continue his studies because he wanted to focus on his studies. He graduated a year early, only completing high school in two years. In 2015, with outstanding strength, he was famous for being admitted to several schools: 1st in the country for Beijing Dance Academy's dance performance, 10th in the Central Academy of Drama's performance department, 7th in the Communication University of China's performance department, and 12th in Shanghai Academy of Art and Design's faculty of Arts. He successfully entered the Central Academy of Drama's performance department[1]. It was then that finally decided to enter SM Entertainment and become a trainee.

Career

Pre debut

On January 5, 2016, he was introduced as a member of SM ROOKIES, along with Kun[2]. Before his debut as a member of NCT, however, he had participated in many group activities. On April 9, 2016, he attended the 16th Annual Music Awards with NCT U, where he performed a solo dance performance and participated in "일곱 번째 감각 (The 7th Sense)" with the other NCT U members. On the 10th, he appeared in the music video for "WITHOUT YOU". On May 9 of the same year, he appeared in the NCT group variety show "NCT Life in Seoul" as a trainee.

On July 3, 2016, he was publicly announced to be a member of NCT 127, On the 7th, the group released the title song "소방차 (Fire Truck)" on the first mini album NCT #127, and appeared on Mnet's M Countdown.

On November 23, 2018, it was officially announced that he did not participate in the new album activity of NCT 127 for the repackaged album Regulate because he was preparing for his Chinese debut.[3]

He debuted in NCT U with the song "BOSS", released on February 18, 2018 as a prelude to NCT 2018 EMPATHY.

For the NCT 2020 project, he participated in the promotions for NCT 2020 RESONANCE Pt. 2 title song "90's Love".

WayV

The formation of WayV was announced through the group's official Weibo account on December 31, 2018[4], though the group's existence had been alluded to during the NCT 2018 promotions.

He debuted with WayV as the group's lead dancer, lead rapper, and sub vocalist on January 17, 2019, with the digital release The Vision.


For WayV's Rainbow V project, he choreographed and performed a dance with Ten. The music they used was Billie Eilish and Khalid's "Lovely".

Other activities

Acting career

On September 30, 2021, WinWin established a personal studio for his acting career in China.[5]

He is set to appear in the Chinese drama "网剧如月 (The Shadow)".

Personal life

His family is composed of his father, mother, and older sister. His older sister is the only member of the family who is a New Zealand citizen, being born there. She had previously lived in China, and is currently living in New Zealand. His family had two dogs in the past, Figure and Penny. Their family currently has a dog at home named Wang.

  • He can speak five languages: Wenzhounese, Mandarin, English, Korean, and Japanese.
    • His Wenzhounese accent used to be thick when he spoke Mandarin, that one of his classmates thought that his name was Dong Ercheng.[t 1]
    • He thinks in Mandarin.[t 2]
  • In the new dormitory, he shares a room with Lucas. Their room is the biggest in the unit they share with Xiaojun and Hendery.
  • In the old dormitory, he shared a room with Lucas. Their room is the smallest in the WayV dormitory.
  • During NCT 127 promotions, he originally used to share a room with Taeil. When they moved, he shared with Yuta and Doyoung, then Yuta and Mark, and then Yuta and Taeil.
  • His original stage name was supposed to be "Win", so he was surprised when he checked his debut profile and read "Winwin" there instead.
  • His individual fandom name is 运气 (yùnqi), which translates to luck and is similar to the Chinese pronunciation of Winwin (昀昀 yúnyún).
  • His stage name is used in a few running gags on NCT and WayV content: WinWin, WonWon, LoseLose. "WINWIN WIN" and "WINWIN LOSE". A wordplay which he coined by himself is that "WinWin never wins on WINformation."
  • He remembers being called by the English name "Mike" as a child.
  • He opened his Instagram account on July 29, 2020. He was the last member of WayV and the 9th member of NCT to open an Instagram account.
  • Originally, he had a snaggletooth, which got removed. He also used to wear lingual braces.

  • His right ear is pointed, and has been dubbed adorably as an elf ear or fairy ear. A lot of the NCT members have the habit of touching it.
    • Though there is no confirmation of whether it is the case or not, it could be an occurrence of a Stahl’s ear. This consists of an extra cartilage fold in the scapha portion of the ear, which results in a pointed ear shape.[t 3]
  • Though his usual voice is very low, it becomes a high tone when he plays around or laughs.
  • He has admitted to having a greed for acting: he went on to the department of acting at university, and often says that he wants to try acting and is waiting for an opportunity.
  • His dream of becoming a singer was cultivated by the song "으르렁 (Growl)" by EXO. In particular, his role model is EXO's Sehun.
  • Xiaojun had said that Winwin is a legend among entrance exam takers in China due to his records, and that he asked the older for advice during the entrance exam period for the performance department.
  • He was the one who introduced the Watermelon Game to his members (according to YangYang, he sent it to their group chat at 01:00AM) and later on, to the fans through the Bubble service. Because of him, the game topped Naver's search and became popular in South Korea.
  • Among the NCT members, he and Jaehyun are the only ones born in the same year 1997.
  • The members of NCT all adore him so much, that there's the existence of the 윈윈사랑단 (Winwin Lover's Club).

  • His favorite season is winter. It doesn't snow much in Wenzhou, so when he was a child, he put the snow in a cup, but in the evening it all melted.
  • He prefers cats over dogs, as he remembered being chased by a dog when he was a child. Despite this, his family raised two dogs in the past, and currently has a dog at home, whom Winwin hasn't met yet.
  • His AirPods are named "아저씨" (ajeossi, meaning old man).
