The ZSD-63C is a Chinese Armored Personnel Carrier that appears in Wargame: Red Dragon.
History
The concept of ZSD-63 started in 1958 as a fully-enclosed tracked APC with amphibious capabilities; after the flaws in design and new upgrades introduced to the 531A prototype, the ZSD-63 eventually joined PLAGF in 1970 as the first domestic APC in service and has been used during the Vietnam War by Viet Cong and Sino-Vietnamese War by both side. It is also sometimes called the "Type 63", both a name system used to refer to Julian year of production start. The first batch of vehicles began service in 1964, but due to some issues, they only entered widespread service after 1970, so the Year 1968 in the game is reasonable.
The basic steel box design is simple and functional, designed for small arms protection and have all terrain operation with amphibious capabilities. Although it is a domestic Chinese design, the Soviet design influence is strongly visible. About 8000 have been produced with hundreds exported to other countries (presented as "ZSD-531A" in-game) making it one of the most successful military vehicles built. The ZSD-63 series ceased production in the 1990s.
The C model is the amphibious capabilities enhance model. Apart from adding a shield for the machine gunner, its most obvious feature is the addition of a boat-shaped pontoon in the front of the vehicle to increase buoyancy, but this has not been showed in the game.
Overview
Compared to the A model, the ZSD-63C has 1 more Side Armor, and slightly increases in Speed, Amphibious, and Autonomy. Due to increased stats and the same cost, players can choose the C model without hesitation, and no need to struggle between armor or amphibious abilities like the M113 series.
