The MiG-25RBF is a ground attack plane that was introduced for East Germany in The Millionth Mile DLC for Wargame: Red Dragon.
History
The Mikoyan MiG-25RBF (NATO reporting name: FOXBAT-D) is a twin-engine, single-seat, supersonic Electronics Intelligence (ELINT) aircraft with bomb carriage capability. The MiG-25R family is a derivative of the original MiG-25 supersonic interceptor airframe, but modified for reconnaissance and strike. The MiG-25RBF is a conversion of the MiG-25RBK with an enhanced ELINT package. The model retains the RBK's strike capability while neither type carries cameras.
Overview
The MiG-25RBF is a high-speed strike platform available to East German decks. It features good ECM (30%), excellent speed, and a powerful weapon load of eight 500kg bombs that there is no match in NATO. Thanks to its high speed, the RBF spends minimal time in the envelope of enemy IADS, and its ECM gives it fair survivability if fired upon. The eight 500kg bombs can devastate infantry, light vehicles and even mid-range tanks with their good explosive power. Carrying eight such bombs, the RBF can create a wide area of destruction.
The MiG-25RBF is not without its drawbacks. The aircraft carries no air-to-air weapon compliment, nor an internal cannon, leaving it highly vulnerable to even relatively inexpensive fighters. Finally, while its ECM is good, it is not exceptional, and advanced SAMs and AAMs are likely to bag the RBF. As such, fighter or SEAD escort should be considered when employing the RBF depending on the threat.
