Very clever, Velma. But it's too late.
~ Simone Lenoir's most famous quote while revealing her true nature.

Simone Lenoir is the main antagonist of the Scooby-Doo franchise's 6th feature film Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island.

She is a deadly werecat (disguised as a human) along with her maid Lena Dupree who lives on Moonscar Island and drains the life force of visitors every harvest moon in order to preserve her own.

She was voiced by Adrienne Barbeau, who also played Miss Peters in The Twilight Zone, Catwoman in Batman: The Animated Series, Trish Niedermeyer in The Wayans Bros., Helga Von Guggen on Totally Spies, Wilma Northrup in Creepshow, and Hera in the God of War video game franchise.

Biography

Past

Simone Lenoir was once a human who lived during the eighteenth century. She was one of a group of peaceful settlers who lived on Moonscar Island. One night while the settlers were celebrating a bountiful harvest, Morgan Moonscar and his pirate cronies came ashore and pillaged the island. The pirates drove all the settlers into the bayou to be devoured by alligators, all except for Simone and Lena Dupree. Simone and Lena invoked their cat spirit and uttered a curse on the pirates in order to destroy them. They were transformed into werecats and subsequently killed all the pirates.

Shortly afterwards, they realized that the cat spirit's curse had turned them into cats permanently. From that moment on, Simone and Lena were forced to survive by draining the life force of people who came to their island every harvest moon. Many of these victims became zombies and tried to prevent visitors from suffering the same fate they did, albeit unsuccessfully.

Lena and Simone also recruited Jacques as their ferry driver at some point and gave him the exact same curse as they knew it would grant him immortality.

Encounter with Mystery Inc.

One summer, they invited Mystery Inc. to the island as they were looking for a real haunting for Daphne Blake's TV show. As the gang settled in, Scooby-Doo kept chasing Simone's cats around her property and caused a lot of damage, much to her annoyance.

Revelation and Death

On the night of the harvest moon, while the zombies of the werecats' previous victims were roaming the island and trying to drive them away, Lena took Fred, Velma, Daphne and the gardener Beau to their underground voodoo dungeon so that the zombies would not interfere. The werecats held them captive using voodoo dolls and revealed themselves. Simone and Lena then reveal their past to the gang and that Jacques was in on their plan as well.

When Scooby and Shaggy ran into the dungeon after being pursued by Jacques before Simone and Lena could drain the others, Simone angerly states that she's had enough of Scooby and fully transforms into her werecat form with Lena and chase the duo. Lena and Simone almost succeeded in draining them, but were quickly overpowered when Velma and Daphne, who managed to break free and reconfigured the voodoo dolls to look like her and Lena and used them against the werecats and see how they like it.

They eventually cornered the gang, enraged for last time after Jacques knocked the dolls out their hands blind after being squirted in the eye by a hot pepper from Scooby, thus making Simone and Lena fly knocking all the zombies down, but just as they were about to drain them and kill them, the harvest moon's midnight phase ended. As Simone, Lena and Jacques' immortal lives expired, the three villains aged hundreds of years and crumbled into a pile of dust. As a result, the souls of the werecats' zombified victims are freed, so they could finally rest in peace.

Quotes

Who brought this...this...dog!?
~ Simone, upon seeing Scooby.
Daphne: (grunting) You won't get away with this!
Simone: I've been getting away with it for 200 years! (laughs evilly)
~ Simone Lenoir revealing her true age to Fred, Daphne, Velma and Beau before revealing herself to be a cat creature.
Fred: Just what are you planning to do to us?
Simone: Ah, it's simple. Every harvest moon, I must drain the life force from victims lured to my island to preserve my immortality.
~ Simone explaining her true plot.
Velma: If you're as old as you say you are, then I'll bet you're the one who found Morgan Moonscar's treasure!
Simone:
Morgan Moonscar!... He was the cause of all of this! I was part of a group of settlers who made this island our home. We looked to our cat god for a bountiful harvest. Until that night, when he came ashore. He drove the islanders into the bayou. All except for Lena and myself. We ushered a curse on the pirates, to destroy them as they had destroyed our island. Our wish was granted. We became cat creatures and destroyed the pirates. Only afterwards did we discover that invoking the cat god's power had cursed us as well.
~ Simone explaining her and Lena's backstory to Fred, Daphne, Velma and Beau.
I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THAT MEDDLING DOG!
~ Simone before fully transforming into a cat creature, and ironically her final words in the film before her death.

Trivia

  • Simone and the other werecats are the first Scooby-Doo villains to die, followed by the Phantom Virus. Although both Sarah Ravencroft and Ben Ravencroft were seemingly killed when their spell-book was burned, this doesn't specify their fates, as they were never confirmed officially to have died when the book was burned.
  • The name Simone is a tribute to the French film actress Simone Simon, famous for playing a werecat in the 1942 horror film Cat People, and it's 1944 sequel The Curse of the Cat People.
  • Simone is based on Elise Lenoir from the Jonny Quest episode Eclipse, who in turn was based on Katarina Moorkroft from the unfinished SWAT Kats episode Succubus!.
  • A sequel film entitled Scooby-Doo! Return to Zombie Island was released and Simone and the other werecats made cameos in flashbacks.
