Biography
Renata Glasc was the daughter of a pair of alchemists willing to give their cures to anyone in need, even if customers did not have enough money to afford them. The Glascs devoted all of their time to benefiting others but not themselves, causing Renata to live poor and hungry. She resented their ideology and dreamt of the ships that sailed through the Sun Gate canal, which was the source of the richness of the world. When Renata grew old enough to assist her parents, she had no penchant for alchemy but instead wanted to make her family earn more money by catering to richer customers. She set up charities for rich Zaunites, and succeeded in giving decent wealth to her family through her work.
Renata expected her parents to relax and take it easy with their lives, but instead they resumed their alchemical work by creating a chemtech formula to extend the lives of their sickest patients, but no matter what they did it always had side effects, like making them extremely suggestible or violent. Renata was disappointed with her parents, but wondered if their formula had more use than intended. Unfortunately, the elite clan leaders of Piltover caught wind of the Glasc family's success and saw them as a threat to their business, so they sent Chem-Baron enforcers to assassinate them. They burned down the Glasc residence and killed Renata's parents, with Renata losing her arm after failing to save them. Salvaging her parents' formula, Renata swore to avoid their thankless altruism and decided to move her business in her way: to become rich and powerful by creating her own empire.
Renata built her business over the years through small-time projects and philanthropic businesses, but if her clients had no money she would demand their loyalty. Eventually she started to believe that genius was Zaun's greatest source of success, so she formed her company Glasc Industries and started operations to help youths by offering a place to live for their families in exchange for their loyalty. She faced conflict with several chem-barons who originally owned the property she took, but she persuaded them to join her. She became a noteworthy chem-baron whose name intimidated other businesses for fear of her taking away their cash flow. Renata formed her company Glasc Industries, where she constructed many factories to develop her products.
When a chemical accident caused poisonous gases to sweep Zaun, Renata took the opportunity to distribute respiratory tools to the local citizens for free, making them hail her for her generosity. The word spread to Piltover as well, leading to many Piltovan shops stocking Glasc Industries' products. Soon, Renata was invited to join wealthy Piltovans in their conventions, but her ultimate goal was not to be a chem-baron in Zaun nor the chemical darling of Piltover. Instead, she now has her sights set on the Sun Gate canal which controls all of Piltover's economy. Renata wishes to take over the Sun Gate so can control the trade and eventually the world. Intending to activate the chemtech formula stored within all of her products, it is only a matter of time before Renata Glasc has all of Runeterra working for her.
Personality
“ | I gave out breathers in exchange for Zaun's loyalty. Ha, those dividends are priceless! | „ |
~ Renata Glasc |
Renata Glasc is a greedy and cunning entrepreneur, always planning ahead and seizes any opportunity. She is greedy and vain, taking pride in getting money even at the expense of others' welfare, whom she sees as stepping stones for her ambition. While she has earned success from making an efficient business and offering free breathing masks to Zaunite citizens, all of her benefactory actions were ultimately a facade to gain the loyalty of the populations of Piltover and Zaun, and she takes great pride in manipulating people to achieve her goals. Ultimately, she wants to take control of the Sun Gate canal so she can turn all of Runeterra into her own economic empire and subjugate everyone using her formula with full knowledge of the side effects.
Behind all of her success and ambition, Renata Glasc was mainly motivated from her past of growing up in poverty because her parents sacrificed their own wealth to benefit others, which caused her to feel disappointed with their naivety and methods, influencing her manipulative ideals growing up. Despite this, Renata greatly revered her parents and held vengeance towards Piltover their deaths (and grief for being unable to save them) for killing them in the first place. In one of her in-game death quotes, she laments that she hopes to see her dead parents again.
Gameplay
Renata Glasc is an enchanter-type support with the ability to assist allies and hinder enemies.
- Renata's passive, Leverage, causes her basic attacks to deal bonus magic damage to enemies and marking them. Allied champions who attack those enemies consume the mark to deal bonus damage.
- Renata's Q, Handshake, causes her to extend her robotic arm to grab onto an enemy. If she catches one, she roots that enemy and can recast to toss them at the chosen direction, damaging other enemies in the way and stunning enemy champions.
- Her W, Bailout, makes her enhance either herself or an allied champion, giving them bonus attack speed and move speed when moving towards enemies, with its effect being prolonged if they score a takedown. If the champion affected by Bailout dies, they will revive but their health will rapidly decay over a few seconds. If they get a takedown before they die, they will continue to live.
- Her E, Loyalty Program, fires two rockets that travel in arcs beside her before travelling straight ahead, while creating a burst in her position upon casting and another when the rockets travel their maximum distance. Any allies who touch Loyalty Program at any point will be shielded, while any enemies will be slowed.
- Renata's R, Hostile Takeover, causes her to release a wide cloud of her formula which travels straight ahead. Any enemies who touch the cloud will be momentarily brainwashed, uncontrollably attacking anyone nearby, even their own allies. They will prioritize attacking their allied champions, then neutral units, then champions opposing them and finally Renata herself.
