Biography

Lore

When Malzahar was reborn in Icathia as the Prophet of the Void, Kog'Maw was born from the terrible Void magic he summoned. After the Prophet had left the Icathian ruins, Kog'Maw emerged with no idea about the Watchers, his kin, or what his purpose was. All he knew was he wanted to explore this strange new world and eat as much of it as he could. Curious as to why he had been summoned, Kog'Maw eventually decided he should go looking for Malzahar, which would help to familiarize himself with this strange new world.

As Kog'Maw explored Runeterra, he was amazed at the colors and smells of the different environments, eating the different animals and people he came across. The mortal beings soon became terrified of Kog'Maw, who remained oblivious to the pain and destruction he was causing. Kog'Maw paid them little attention, remaining determined in his quest, but when Kog'Maw eventually finds Malzahar, no one has any idea what he will do next.

Gameplay

In game, Kog'Maw is a marksman-type champion, spitting acid at his foes to deal consistent damage from a long range. His passive, Icathian Surprise, lets Kog'Maw move around for a few seconds after he dies, exploding to deal true damage to enemies. Kog'Maw can use Caustic Spittle to launch a projectile of acid at targets, Bio-Arcane Barrage to increase the range of his attacks, and Void Ooze to spit a trail of toxic substances that damage and slow enemies. Kog'Maw's ultimate, Living Artillery, has him fire a poisonous artillery shell from a long distance, which increases significantly for targets at low health.

Personality

Like Cho'Gath, much of Kog'Maw's personality is defined by his insatiable hunger, which leads him on a warpath of destruction and murder. However, unlike Cho'Gath, Kog'Maw is not inherently evil and is instead inquisitive and curious about the mortal realm, and his villainous actions are only caused by a lack of understanding of the human species. In this respect, Kog'Maw is much more similar to Vel'Koz, seeking to learn as much as he can to appease his youthful naiveté.

Trivia

  • Kog'Maw makes the "Chaarge!" bugle call as his joke.
  • Kog'Maw's father is speculated to be either the Watchers themselves or another powerful Void entity, though he could also be referring to Malzahar, the one who summoned him.
