Mok Shaiz is the secondary antagonist of the 2021-2022 Disney+ Star Wars streaming miniseries The Book of Boba Fett.
He was the Ithorian Mayor of the Tattooine city of Mos Espa, one of the few large metropolitan areas on the desert world. He operated out of Mos Espa's city hall. He employed a Majordomo and a city clerk to help manage the city's affairs. Shaiz spoke in his native Ithorian, and relied on a translator to communicate with individuals in Galactic Basic as necessary.
He was portrayed by John Rosengrant and voiced by the show's director Robert Rodriguez, who also voiced himself in The Cleveland Show.
Biography
Owing to money paid to him by Bib Fortuna after the death of Jabba the Hutt, he had become wealthy. Sometime prior to 9 ABY, Shaiz began working for the Pyke Syndicate and promised Jabba's territory to them. When Boba Fett killed Fortuna and took over Jabba's empire, Shaiz refused to go to Fett's palace to pay tribute and sent his Majordomo to Fett to demand he pay Shaiz tribute. Fett refused to pay but allowed the Majordomo to live, who warned Fett the mayor may send another delegation.
After an assassination attempt, Fett went to city hall and confronted Shaiz, having been told by a surviving assassin that the mayor had sent them to kill Fett. Shaiz denied trying to have Fett killed, orders to one of his men to kill the assassin and told him that two of Jabba's cousins were behind the assassination attempt.
After a second assassination attempt against Fett failed and the Twins learned that the Pykes were moving in, the Twins left Tattooine and told Fett he should as well. Going to confront the mayor over his recent activities, Fett learned that the mayor had left to join the Pykes as they moved their forces to Mos Espa.
Once Fett and his allies stopped the Pykes from taking over Mos Espa, Shaiz was tracked down by Fennec Shand, who strangled him to death and killed his allies, who were also hiding out with him.
