FN-2199, also known by his nickname "Nines", is a minor antagonist in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
He was portrayed by Liang Yang and voiced by David Acord.
Biography
FN-2199 was one of several Stormtroopers under the direct command of Captain Phasma, being trained along with FN-2187 and FN-2003 from birth. He and fellow stormtrooper FN-2003 were initially close friends with FN-2187, but their friendship became strained when it became clear that FN-2187 was hesitant to follow orders, starting at the First Order's suppression of the Miner's Strike at Pressly's Tumble, during which FN-2187 could not bring himself to open fire on the unarmed striking miners (FN-2199 initially hesitated but eventually obeyed his orders to kill the miners). They were sent to Takodana on the planet Jakku to retrieve a map to Luke Skywalker from the village elder, Lor San Tekka, and defeated the lightly armed villagers defending their homes. After the battle Kylo Ren ordered that the entire village be massacred, which order FN-2199 obeyed without question, but which FN-2187 did not. Shortly afterwards FN-2187 defected from the First Order, which Nines saw as a betrayal.
Later, Nines accompanied an army of Stormtroopers to Maz Kanata's castle on Takodana. Upon spotting FN-2187, renamed "Finn", stabbing a Stormtrooper with the Skywalker lightsaber, Nines recognized his former comrade and called him a traitor before brandishing his Z6 riot control baton and fighting Finn in melee combat. He deflected all of Finn's attacks and gained the upper hand in their fight, but was shot and killed by Han Solo before he could deliver the killing blow.

- His nickname, "TR-8R", is a pun on his only line, "TRAITOR!", which is what he accuses Finn as.
- He is one of the first Stormtroopers to be given screen time as a character.
- FN-2199 has become a very popular character among the fans, because of his one single line, his dexterity, limited screen time, and duel with Finn. His single line in the film even became a popular Internet meme.
- It is presumed that Daniel Craig, the actor of James Bond, portrayed Nines in the film, but this rumor was denied as Nines is portrayed by stuntman named Liang Yang and that Daniel Craig instead portrayed the Stormtrooper who was assigned to watch Rey from escaping from the chair that Kylo Ren imprisoned her in.
- Rick the Door Technician can be seen as a Galactic Empire parallel to him since both are Stormtroopers that tried fighting lightsaber wielders (Finn and Cal Kestis respectively). However unlike the former 2199 put up a good fight, while Rick went down easily and didn't put up a fight. Additionally, unlike Rick, FN-2199 is a regular stormtrooper whereas Rick is a scout trooper.
- His nickname "Nines" is similar to CT-5555 nickname Fives from Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
