Run! I want to see fear in your eyes!
~ Kursk.
Furnace, is raining boy!
~ Kursk to Furnace.

Kursk is a minor antagonist in the Image Comics series Invincible and its animated adaptation of the same name.

He is a Russian mercenary who can control massive amounts of electricity and is a criminal enforcer to Machine Head and later Titan. He was also the arch-nemesis of Red Rush.

He is voiced by Ross Marquand, who also voiced Rudy Connors, Bi-Plane, Omnipotus, and King Immortal in the same series; Infinity Ultron and Red Skull in What If...?; Apocalypse in X-Men '97; and portrayed Red Skull in Avengers: Infinity War.

Biography

Kursk is first seen terrorizing a factory with his powers but is quickly restrained by Red Rush, leaving him confused.

At some point, he was hired by Machine Head, along with Battle Beast, Magnattack, Furnace, Magmaniac, and Tether Tyrant, to kill Invincible and Titan. Kursk got the high ground and shocked Titan. Titan knocked Kursk into Battle Beast into Magnattack, who flew the three off him. Kursk then fights Invincible, along with Magmaniac. When Invincible is caught by Tether Tyrant, Kursk, and Magmaniac attempt to kill him, but Invincible breaks out and throws Tyrant at him. When the Guardians of the Globe arrive to help Invincible, Kursk mostly fights Dupli-Kate, but then goes to fight Monster Girl, though she gets angry after seeing what happened to Black Samson and slams Kursk into a wall leaving him unconscious. He later fights Dupli-Kate again destroying most of her clones but is stopped and defeated by Robot. He was taken into custody by the GDA along with his allies.

Kursk was later hired by Mr. Liu and Titan to break Multi-Paul out of Stronghold Penitentiary with Furnace. They took out some guards although Kursk spoke in Russian so Furnace did not understand him (In the TV series, Kursk spoke English but in a Russian accent). They were attacked by Invincible in his new costume for the first time, and Kid Omni-Man in his costume for the first time. Kursk spotted Kid Omni-Man and shouted "Is raining boy!" to Furnace and electrocuted Kid Omni-Man, sending him crashing to the ground before Oliver could land a punch. An angry Invincible punches Kursk into a wall and throws Furnace at Kursk, breaking Furnace's armor and burning Kursk. Kursk is then imprisoned at Stronghold Penitentiary.

Personality

Kursk displays very little concern for the human lives that surround him and cares about two things; money and self-preservation. He is also not above employing deadly force to achieve his goal. But when confronted by a serious threat, he will often flee or surrender. He is also a fearmonger, taking a sadistic delight in watching his victims flee before attacking them.

Trivia

  • Kursk is based on Electro from the Marvel Comics.
    • Given his color scheme, energy powers, and hated relationship with his archenemy, Red Rush, it’s possible he is also based on Professor Zoom from the DC Comics.
