Is this planet not riddled with death and disease? Are these people not plagued by violence and war? A Viltrumite occupation would rid them of all that. We would share technology, cure their diseases. No violence would occure under our rule. We could transform this world into a utopia.
~ Anissa trying to convince Invincible to let the Viltrum Empire take over Earth.
Tell Mark I'm sorry--that I didn't understand what I was doing... but that I... I don't regret what I did... he'll understand... when he sees him.
~ Anissa to Atom Eve regarding her past actions, as well as her last words.

Anissa is a major antagonist in the Image Comics series Invincible and its animated adaptation of the same name.

She is one of, if not the most powerful female agent of the Viltrum Empire, who was sent to supervise Mark Grayson's progress on conquering Earth after Omni-Man abandons post.

She is voiced by Shantel VanSanten.

Biography

Overview

Like all other Viltrumites, Anissa was born on the planet Viltrum and witnessed Thragg’s rise to Grand Regent, participating in the culling of the weak that halved Viltrum's population.

She interrupted Mark and Debbie Grayson's lunch (Amber Bennett in the TV series) to get his attention. In both mediums, she threatened to kill her if Mark didn't follow her. After Mark agreed to talk in the sky, she told him to be quick or she would kill her and everyone in the immediate area. She explained how the people of Earth had a low chance of surviving the next centuries without billions being killed. She also explained that the planet would lose a lot because of human greed, and claimed that the Viltrum Empire could fix the planet's problems with its technology. After Mark’s refusal, after she helped kill a monster attacking a cruise ship, she’d beat him in a fight. After doing that, she warned him again that if he didn’t comply with the mission, an unknown Viltrumite would wipe out the planet.

She would return to the Viltrum Warship to Kregg, reported that the mission was a failure, she would then be summoned to fight and capture Allen the Alien.

Viltrumite War

Some years later, Anissa would be sent to take down the Coalition of Planets and rammed right through the coaltion's home base tower, where Thadeus was present.

She was later been seen attacking Thaedus and Tech Jacket but was defeated by Omni-Man, and the Grayson Brothers.

Later along with the rest of the Viltrumites, Anissa retreated to Viltrum in order to stage a counter-attack, and fought against Omni-Man, she would later be shocked when learning that Mark Grayson had killed Conquest and was distracted long enough for Nolan to uppercut her in the face.

Omni-Man, Invincible and Thadeus, along with Space Racer, destroyed Viltrum, and Anissa along with the viltrumites watched as Thragg ended Thadeus' life. Anissa joined the other viltrumites in brutalizing Allen, but he was saved by Space Racer.

Life on Earth

Anissa, like the other survivors of Viltrum, gathered to earth and was forced to disguise herself, and was pictured being ogled by several humans, much to her chagrin.

Anissa despises trying to establish building a life on earth, even having to make a child with the humans, she also witness Thragg almost kill Nolan, as Thragg admits that Nolan is the heir of Argall, Anissa assuming command of this operation, leads the viltrumites to rebel against Thragg and kill him, but is stopped by Nolan who tells him to let Thragg live, Anissa along with the others kneel to Nolan.

The Ultimate Sin

Much later, Anissa establishes a cat and mouse game with Invincible, having some lustful feelings for him. Initially, she is seen spying on Mark while he is arm-wrestling his dad, which distracts him for a moment. Later, after killing a giant monster summoned by Doc Seismic and Volcanikka, she tells Mark that she wasn't spying on his dad, but Mark himself, before forcibly kissing him on the mouth before leaving, much to Mark's displeasure. Months later, immediately after Mark (temporarily) breaks up with Eve, Anissa confronts mark in the sky, telling him that she'd been searching for him, telling him that she will mate only with him as he is part Viltrumite. After Mark attempts to leave, Anissa attacks him physically, crashing to the ground before ripping apart their clothes and raping Mark, horribly traumatizing him before telling him to 'man up', and tells him that she may do this multiple times incase she does not become pregnant, but it is moreso because she lusts after him.

Mark and Anissa would be seen passing by each other a few times, as Mark gets upset even grabbing her by the throat, but Anissa finds joy and wants to speed up their next meeting.

However Mark left earth, and Anissa never got the chance, and eventually settled down and met a man named Scott Murphy. Anissa's ramifications with Invincible later gave birth to Markus 'Marky' Murphy, and later, she and Scott would have another child. For the next 4 years, Anissa began to regret her actions, both with the empire and with Mark. When Mark returned to meet with Nolan, Anissa decided this opportunity to apologize, but instead Atom Eve, stopped her, until Nolan and Mark showed up, Nolan grabs Anissa by the throat and demands what did he do to Mark, However Mark says she didn't do anything, much to Eve's enragement.

Anissa was summoned for one last fight conflict with Thragg and in the process saves Eve from one of Thragg's controlled Ragnarrs, but is fatality slashed through the chest, in her last breaths, Anissa tells Eve to tell Mark that she's sorry, but doesn't regret her decision that day, and that he'd understand once he sees the child she had with Mark. One of the doctors confirms Anissa dies before she's brought aboard.
